Using boundary locator and finding addresses from some gives you an idea of the absurdity on basic stuff like AAP feeds and school assignments.

The delayed Coates change really highlights how bad the comprehensive review has been. Instead of fixing the immediate needs now, the school board delayed those urgent fixes to waste everyone’s time effort and money on unnecessary changes that caused a lot of stress for a lot of families across the county.

So annoying, and they plan to run it back in a couple of years. Buffoonery.

But why would moving Navy Chantilly HS families to Oakton HS bump Lees Corner out of Chantilly? I don’t get the connection?

OOPs! I Must have misread. I thought you were moving all of Navy IN to Chantilly. But, those Navy kids live across the road from Chantilly. They should not move them out.

Yeah. Scenario 1 moves all Navy kids out to Oakton. Scenario 3 moves all Navy kids in to Chantilly. Scenario 2 leaves the Navy kids’ high schools alone which is why I’m in favor of that one.

Scenario 3 moves all the newly zoned Navy kids to Chantilly, but it also rezones a portion of them to Waples Mill > Oakton. However, if they aren’t touching ES boundaries now, then there will still be a portion of Navy kids who go to Oakton.

+1. I have a student at Franklin right now and nearly all of his friend group will go to a high school different from him. I am ambivalent about which high school my younger two kids attend, but would like it to be one that the majority of their middle school is attending. To me, that is the issue with Scenario 2 that so many like. It sends the Navy kids to Rocky Run where most will continue on to Chantilly and only a small fraction would go to Oakton (we're in the small fraction).

I agree with you that’s not ideal. Maybe they can tweak it so that does not happen. We are a Navy Chantilly family so going to Rocky Run would be better for us as our child would meet more Chantilly kids. At Franklin, I believe it’s actually more kids going to Oakton so that is already difficult for us.

I thought that was actually in Scenario 1?

Since they aren’t touching the elementary school boundaries my guess is they would revise the maps then so those kids would stay with the Navy cohort. I am eager to see the new maps at the end of the month.

Does it send all Navy kids to Rocky Run or only some? My guess is this is happening because Franklin will be taken over by Crossfield in all 3 scenarios.

Franklin, Stone, Rocky Run (AAP only) Stone and Carson all feed to Westfield right now.

Lots of areas are lobbying against Scenario 2 so there is certainly no consensus on it being preferable.

Right now Liberty MS only feeds to CVHS. 2 creates a three way split feeder to CVHS-CHS-Westfield. If getting rid of split feeders is a priority, this is an odd choice. (It also turns Brookfield ES into a split feeder with half going to Stone-Westfield and the other half being moved from Franklin to Rocky Run and then staying at Chantilly.

The Centreville people obviously are against being taken out of CVHS. The Cabell's Mill people are sending around a petition over being moved to Liberty from Rocky Run.

I thought I saw somewhere that each scenario was supposed to accomplish a specific goal, like scenario 1 filled the most buildings to a certain capacity, or reduced travel time, or something?
