She didn't formally "strip" them of their title (she would need to issue letters patent to do so" but she's no longer allowing them to call themselves HRH. So in all intents and purposes - they are no longer royal. Also sounds like they are no longer "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex" ... but merely "Duke and Duchess of Sussex. " Apparently also a big deal to nobles. Like when Diana ceased to become "The Princess of Wales" but "Diana, Princess of Wales." The Queen's children are styled "The Prince Edward" . The "The" in the beginning is important to them. Also, no more royal patronages. No more representing the Queen or the country in any official capacity - no royal tours/boondoggles. No more pomp. Again, a big deal to them. |
The title, (given first name), (rank) of (place) is how Diana and Fergie were styled post divorce. There is a UK expert figuring this out how to distinguish them as non-royal (i.e., neither HRH nor the in front of (rank) of (place). Maybe simply, (given first name) of (place). |
| Harry of Sussex, Meghan of Sussex. That leaves the door open for them to return to their former roles. |

The vast majority of Canadians don't want to pay for these 2 either:

Not a big deal to the people matter, Harry and Meghan... and Oprah, and all of their A list friends. They are still royal to everyone else, especially on this side of the world. All this talk for title is just a big shrug to the jet set elite they hang with. |
Not really. No one gave 2 shits about Meghan until she became a royal, by marrying a royal. Now, neither of them is royal. |
I think she knows that what we know publicly about Andrew is the tip of the iceberg. H&M also likely know a lot more. My feeling here is that enough was given up by H&M to make QE2 save face (hence all the rumors of "more," so she looks compassionate), but not enough to make H&M have to resort to a tell-all book. H&M didn't lose all that much that really matters to them, and the door is open for a return. Both sides put forth a joint implied PR message about how they all didn't get what they want, so it looks like the Palace didn't entirely cave. I suspect H&M's silence on Andrew was part of the deal. |
Silence about Andrew was secondary. The real deal was Harry had to be silent about William. That’s where the real damage to the royal family comes into play. |
So, now Prince Harry is still a prince... and still a Duke... and all the other titles I forget... but not royal, not at all. Mkay got it. Sounds like a distinction without a difference. Also, according to the queen’s statement they kept that oh so important HRH designation, they’re just not supposed to use it. Yawn. This seems like the palace trying REALLY hard to save face and show they took something away when in reality they’re keeping their titles. |
+1 Everyone already thinks Andrew is a rapist. Not sure what else they could spill. But considering how close William and Harry used to be I’m sure he knows where all his bodies are buried. And I think given how scandalous the whole family is there is something! |
Yup. I also think that they might be trying to leave the door open to bring them back (or at least Harry) in the future |
| They will be Fergie pt. II. Irrelevant and kind of pathetic. |
| I still don’t understand why Harry married an actress if the limelight bothers him so much. |
They are still royal. They are no longer allowed to refer to themselves as "his/her/our/their royal highness". It affects the brand name they're trying to trademark (still in the works), but not much else of consequence to them. They can get the full titles back if the Queen decides so at some point in the future. https://wnep.com/2020/01/20/harry-and-meghan-are-dropping-their-hrh-titles-heres-what-that-actually-means/ |
