They don’t need a precedent.

Harry hates the UK tabloid media and what they have done to both his mother and wife. That media isn’t going away, so good for them for leaning out.

There is precedent in the UK and other royal families to prune. But he's not a cousin or distant relation.

It's a jerk move on his part, IMO. He wants to escape the tabloids but is ditching his brother.

Oh come on. There is NO WAY that his father, brother, and grandmother are not in total agreement on this.

Good for them. Mr grandmother-in-law had (some) money and acted like a bitch about it and everyone bowed to her. Imagine if your grandmother was literally the Queen? Now they can live in Canada, LA, South Africa and not have to be on the Monarchy's payroll.

Essentially they are saying they will continue to support the queen when she needs them but they won't be on the take like the rest of the non-important royals. Given that Charles has made it clear that he wants to reduce the number of royals who are essentially being provided for, this is a good thing.

They can now work for themselves, raise their son in a manner they see fit, chart their own path. They won't be taking UK tax money so that entire line of "well we are entitled to this because it's our money!" argument is gone. I really applaud them for this.

Also, contrary to what everyone seems to think, I believe Harry always wanted to take this route. I think his feelings on the press, media coverage and everything that goes along with being in the public eye have been clear.

Totally agree with all of this. Good for them.

I have no doubt people will send them money but they should get jobs and live with normal people if that is what they want.

Why? Megan wasn’t living with normal people before she got married.

She’s Wallis 2.0.

Maybe he would have stood by his brother if William had stood up for him. 3 years and not a word.

Deserves what he gets.

That's not how family works. Or at least family who love each other.

Huh? William’s media coverage has been positive for the past year. Just a bunch of stories about how he is the future king over and over and how him and Kate are the “new Charles and Diana”

Meghan isn’t wearing her wedding ring in today’s photo. No official announcement from Buckingham Palace. This is Meghan’s PR getting ahead of something really bad.

+1

Good for them! They want to live more normal lives (not under the heavy pressure of the media). They are too far away from ever having to take the thrown. Staying as they were, gave them all of the burdens of being "royals" and never getting to actually be king/queen. Some would say it was the best of all worlds, others would say it was the worst of all worlds. Frankly, I think they are very smart for moving away from it all, giving up the $$, taking ownership of their own lives, and giving their child a fighting chance at being a normal (upper income) kid.

Good for them! And I'm sure no younger brother wants to have to bow down to his older brother. That has to be hard on the ego day in and day out. Better to make your own path in life.

She’s Wallis 2.0.

It’d be kind of weird if she were a nazi supporter and virulent racist given her ancestry.

Oh you’re sooooo clever!!!!

Sounds like a good idea. It's probably for the best if Meghan needs a spotlight, and they are probably not going to be king / princess.

She is a great example of get your cake and eat it too.

Will see if in a couple years, he starts resenting everything he had to give up for her.

She is a brat.

If you are referring to the photo on page one of this thread, you literally cannot tell with the angle her hand is at.

Most of the drama has stemmed from the fact that Harry's wife has been massacred in the public eye, and his family didn't stand up and support him/her. Period. Whether or not you think the media coverage of Meghan was accurate, true or fair, they didn't support his family. If my family member is being attacked on a daily basis, I'm going to be right beside them, showing any support I can. I wouldn't support a murderer, but all of the stuff that has been said about Meghan, you're damn right I would have been out in front of any camera or issuing statements denying them. William didn't do this, Kate didn't do this, Charles didn't do it, the Queen publically supported a PEDOPHILE more than she did her grandson's wife. Why wouldn't he want to break from his family?

People love to ask for "proof" of this or that when it comes to stories about Will and Kate and yet take as complete cannon everything published about Meghan, without a shred of proof. Whenever you ask for that proof, they link to the tabloid article where some "anonymous source" provided a story. I don't think MM is a saint, but she simply can't be as awful as the British media tried to make her out to be, without there being "receipts" readily available, and not anonymous ones.
