FCV (the club) has had and currently has some very intense coaches. Examples range from lecturing players for a half-hour or more after a loss to stories of poor performing players being punished/embarrassed at practices. FCV also has a reputation of heavily recruiting top players much more than other area clubs. As a result, you end up with a higher concentration of the type of parents that are willing to subject their kids to that kind of coaching and with parents you are more likely to succumb to sales pitches about how FCV is the only club that will enable little Mia to reach the pinnacle of youth soccer. And that type of parent is the same type that is more likely to take losing as a personal affront, to yell abuse at referees, to make comments to opposing players, and to gossip/critique their kid's teammates.

Having said that, there's also gossip that there have been parents that were too much even for FCV and which were asked to find another club for their kid.

Thanks.
I don't view your post as a bash, but just the same sort of impressions that parents share on sidelines about many, many clubs.
It is just interesting to get at least one person's impression given all this discussion of FCV in the context of all the previous negative posts about them.
You have to take every thing with a grain of salt, but good to have at least someone's opinions.
We have been at several clubs with several different children doing their own things, and the culture and parents at each had some consistent differences.
I can see your point about FCV being a magnet for attracting a certain type of parent, but would of course need to gather more information to make my own opinion.
Thanks again.

The problem is, the "opinion" is not from a person affiliated with the club. It is nothing but unsubstantiated rumors. I maintain that no club has a monopoly on crazy or nice parents or kids. Perhaps kids at clubs like FCV, McLean or high achieving teams in clubs like Loudoun have driven kids and the kids and parents are both "confident"? But I can't say that I could paint any particular club as having nice, mean, crazy or any other category of parent or kid. I have seen crazy parents at the Rec level of a variety of sports too. I have seen nice parents and crazy parents at every age and level of sports and in a variety of sports.

Bashing a club's parents is baseless and pointless.

I know a parent that yells a lot. Gives instructions to the kids. Reprimands/Corrects the kids. Etc. Etc. I asked why he does it and he said, "If the coach isn't going to correct my kid when he makes a mistake, then I'm going to." : )

And is that somehow a "club trait" or just a parent being an ass?

Even at U9 you are throwing 20 different parents into an equation and 40 on the sideline. All of them are different people. Up to 11v11 you have 36-46 parents per team. That can be 72 parents plus possible grandparents on the sideline. Out of 72 people, yes somebody is going to be a jerk, its science.

Have you ever been to any sporting event were parents were not shouting on the sidelines...any sport!?.....Let's get real and move on.

Sure lots of yellers. I just thought his reasoning was funny.

True, but clubs and coaches do have some influence on this. At some clubs the culture is very much hands-off, "anything goes" when it comes to the parents, while others try to be very strict about it - no criticizing refs, no giving instructions, and so forth ... I've even seen coaches who will take a kid out of the game as a last resort when a parent ignores multiple warnings to STFU.

Yes, there will always be a few who feel like they can do and say whatever they want regardless, but there is a big difference between when there is just 1 or 2 a-holes at a game as opposed to a whole sideline full of a-holes. When it's just a couple, they really stand out and are mostly just embarrassing themselves (and their poor kids). When it becomes the majority, it creates a seriously toxic environment for everyone involved.

Sometimes I think all those video cameras are pointed in the wrong direction.

Some Boys DA questions here.

Has anyone been to the Arlington DA Talent ID sessions the last couple of weeks? If so, how was the talent level? Could you tell what clubs the players were coming from?

Arlington and Loudoun now have 04, 03 & 02 DAs, but next year will have 06, 05, & 04 DAs. Where are their 03s & 02s going to end up?

Sort of the same thing with McLean. Where are their 04/05 DA players looking since next year they will only have 06 DA?

Cool..are we done talking about yellers? Can we get back to sharing information about DA and ECNL.

Connecting the topics of yellers and the DA, here's the link to FCV's presentation from last night:

Ummmm, no. stating "FCV will field teams in ECNL for the 2017/18 season." could be a lie. Stating TBD is pretty much a fact. It is in fact To Be Determined, meaning it is unknown at this time.

I'm also interested in these and other Boys DA questions. Will the local DAs have 02-only teams next year or will they be 02-01s? The change next year to sync the U14, U15 designations with US soccer (this year DA 02s are U14s but other 02s are U15s?) has me confused...

other posters on other forums have reported that ECNL is telling them to pick between DA or ECNL. Read more boards then DCUM, not hard to find. Texas and out West. ......guessing that legally FCV can say they have not been forced out of ECNL yet ...... but writing has to be on the wall and the same across the country.

most parents would not be taking the time to figure it out ....... so looks like a snowjob on parents

No, it isn't a snowjob when you are told that it is not a certainty. DA clubs are having hteir tryouts and their rosters will be filled well in time for those not picked to hit up ECNL clubs. If FCV has ECNL by that point kids will try out for that if not they will go elsewhere.

It is well known they are no longer going to be in the ECNL.
