| No one said that was the definition of "stud". A stud is someone that makes big plays all over the field and is generally better than 95% of the girls out there. A goalie can be a stud. |
Respectfully back, to my fellow former football player dad, it's really not. It is not universal, and isn't even that common outside college football recruiting or NFL draft talk. And it just sounds dumb when applied to a 7th grade girl. |
It's so universal that the definition of "stud" on Merriam-Webster includes "sports, informal : a very talented usually young new player". Unlike other uses of stud that are used in the masculine, the "talented young player" use is gender neutral and is often used to describe female athletes. Here is an example from WaPo where Michael Phelps refers to a young Katie Ledecky as a stud: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/othersports/katie-ledecky-sets-world-record-michael-phelps-is-golden-again-at-pan-pacific-championships/2014/08/23/916e8598-2acc-11e4-8593-da634b334390_story.html. |
Perhaps this is a situation where a word that was commonly used and acceptable two seconds ago is now out of bounds because of social justice or some such thing. |
Stud Beast Animal game changer fierce competitor All accolades that I would be proud to hear another coach or spectator say about my female athlete's game play on the lacrosse field. |
How is it out of bounds? |
How did a lacrosse thread turn into a linguistic debate? |
| Nothing is wrong with the word stud in my opinion. The problem is when you call your own daughter the stud, that has zero value or worth. The value is with her teammates parents call her a stud or the opposing team. Parents call her a a stud. You telling her she’s a stud rings hollow, The worst girl on the team is a probably a stud in their parents eyes. |

I’m not arguing, but the problem with this statement is that a “STUD” Is only a player who scores on offense. That is not a”STUD” To me. A”STUD” is a player who can take over a game on offense AND defense. Just being able to score at the middle school level is only going to get you so far. Everyone gets bigger, faster, and stronger in the next year or two. I want a player who can do everything as opposed to a one trick pony who can only score. Because eventually, they will stop her from scoring |
So by this definition the player essentially has to be a midfielder who has an equally high impact all over the field? |
Attackers can’t play defense anymore? I thought they were supposed to play defense in the midfield? And Defenders never transition the ball up field? No one is saying all are middies, but all anyone looks at is who scores the most. That didn’t mean squat until you are in college |
| Who has the best midfield in DMV? Pride or Stars? |
Both teams have several really good midfielders. But on a combined basis, Pride is probably a stronger midfield group. |
This sounds right. |
