Now he has a second "job" "The Duke of Sussex is teaming up with the nonprofit Aspen Institute for a six-month study exploring of misinformation in America. "As I've said, the experience of today's digital world has us inundated with an avalanche of misinformation, affecting our ability as individuals as well as societies to think clearly and truly understand the world we live in," Prince Harry, 36, said in a statement, according to CNN." If this is a paid position I call foul. Since the pandemic, there are plenty of unemployed communications/social media/tech media people who need a job and could easily do a six-month study. |
He has "unique skills" as a royal and ex British military and the patron and founder of some international children's charities. |
Perhaps he is going to try the same crap as The Times' David Brooks/WeaveProject tried but got caught at. Nothing like being in Facebook's pocket. Wonder how the "prince" will address that during his six-month study. "A spokesperson for the Aspen Institute, a Washington, DC–based think tank, confirmed to BuzzFeed News that the Weave Project has received funding from Facebook. “A number of our programs, including Weave: The Social Fabric Project, work with Facebook in accordance with their missions and have accepted funding for specific projects,” the spokesperson said. Brooks’s ties to Facebook raise questions of conflicts of interest at the world’s most influential newspaper, and highlight how the social network is working to rehabilitate its brand after years of criticism and scrutiny for its roles in spreading conspiracy theories, fomenting hate, and influencing elections. The revelation of the social network’s ties to Brooks and his Aspen Institute work comes after the company has shifted its focus to emphasize building communities in Facebook Groups, despite internal research suggesting that the product fosters polarization, radicalization, and misinformation." https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/craigsilverman/nyt-david-brooks-blogs-for-facebook |
Da fuq kind of expertise can Prince Harry bring to a disinformation study? He’s not a writer, a thinker, a sociologist, a tech expert, a security expert, or a political expert. On any level. That’s...bananas. |
He knows a bit about British tabloids and British privacy laws. Maybe he'll be the British expert... |
Next he will be hiring himself out for birthday parties. LOLLOL. |
The Aspen Institute would get a far better ROI with any of the Made in Chelsea cast. Prestige whoring is still whoring. It’s all absurd but at least his mad money isn’t coming from working people in the UK what with all that prior unsurvivability. |
We have had a separate visa system for important people for forever. Justin Bieber has an O visa, you think he gets hung up on immigration when traveling in for concerts? I like pp's suggestion that he might be using EB5, he could definitely be doing that. My bet is on an O visa or EB5. Or, as others have said, he could have a green card based on Meghan. He would not ever need to become an American citizen after that, there is no requirement that someone applies for citizenship after they have had their green card for a certain length of time, it just allows you to be a permanent working resident. |
+1 hahahahahhhahaha OMG pp. Even if an IRS person who hates MM and Harry was READING THIS THREAD AND AGREED WITH YOU. It would be violating about 10 different laws for them to take it upon themselves to go looking them up in the system. There are INCREDIBLY strict rules about looking up people who's cases you are not assigned at both the IRS and USCIS (I work at one of them!). To the point where they literally record people who search for specific individuals, and then that person can be fired like, immediately. |
This is why people think you guys are like, both stupid and hateful. Harry brings notoriety. OBVIOUSLY. He brings an eff ton of press. He brings an international platform and the ability to do things like bring in big $$$ donors. You think Jennifer Aniston is a subject matter expert in Vitamin Water and that she's stealing jobs from PR people who, if only if it wasn't for greedy Jen, could be the one to shill Vitamin Water? Of course not! She's hired as a walking commercial. So is Harry. |
Excellent comparison and analogy. Yes, I agree that Harry represents the male version of Jen's skill set. |
These are pretty solid gigs for someone with his background and interests.
I am curious about what roles Meghan is aiming for. She has a college degree. Probably U.S. President or a senate seat. |
Why would she do that? A lot of hard work for no money? That’s not Meghan’s style. |
She was a working actress in Hollywood for more than a decade. And not an exceptionally famous one but one that always had steady work. I think you can say a lot of things about her that are debateable, but not wanting to work hard really seems to actually not one of them. She did far more events and travel as a working Royal than her counterparts and did more extra projects as well. |
