No legal basis.

If they put a stadium in my backyard, I'd be suing for nuisance

You "come to the nuisance" when you buy a property adjacent to a school.

True but middle schools don't have stadiums and sport complexes. I'm at Oakton almost every night and it's packed with kids doing soccer, baseball, flag football, marching band etc under all the lights. You didn't sign up for that if you bought next to a middle school.

The private high school building has been there for quite some time.

Meren is such a drama queen. "I have further questions, but I will wait for now, <dramatic pause> because I am still recovering from the emotion from it all." She is nothing more than a wanna be tik-tok influencer born too late so she is trying it for the cameras and on Facebook.

Maybe but she is one of the few to challenge Reid. The majority just go along with whatever Reid wants.

I'm sure she's frustrated for consistently being one of only a handful that appear to do any preparatory work or enforce any sort of rigor in the SB process.
Meren and Dr. Anderson do research and come prepared with data and questions. Many of the others vote in a block, mostly to appease Reid rather than meet community needs.
Meren proposed an amendment to put a timeline in place for posting the meeting materials and topics in advance to support better communication and community engagement and her school board colleagues voted against it. If you haven't been watching, start paying attention. Much of this board is a disgrace and their constituents should demand better.

Seriously, the nerve of some of these SB members (except Meren) to walk in and admit they are ignorant to the going ons regarding Western is just another example of their incompetence. They didn’t even take the time to ask meaningful questions. Meren is right to ask…What is the cost for generating another scenario and continuing to delay? What information do these folks need that they don’t already have after a year long process. Seriously they need to get their shi* together or resign immediately.

I don’t want my School Board representative spending more time on Skyview than the schools in her own district.

Then they shouldn’t vote on it.

The superintendent’s staff ought to work with the School Board members representing the district(s) most affected to come up with something sensible others can support. What we don’t need is every member acting like it affects them equally because the process is so screwed up that they feel like they have to get involved to salvage FCPS’s reputation.

The Reps don’t want to lose students from their current schools, no one would move.

English and logic next time, please. The point of Skyview was to relieve overcrowding.

If they are only calling kids on the TJ waitlist after the School Board said they want a community high school, I went to know how that happened and what message Reid thinks that sends to Westfield and South Lakes families with kids who didn’t apply to TJ.

I don’t necessarily credit what’s been reported here because it’s very clear there are Carson families who want to encourage AAP kids to opt in and discourage others. But it seems there should be an investigation with transparency. If Reid is encouraging teachers to act in a manner contrary to the School Board’s express direction, she needs to be fired.

Our friends with kids at Herndon received an email offering Skyview, they are reaching out to all the 8th and 9th graders. The TJ program they have mentioned might be of interest to kids on the waitlist or not accepted.

Yes, and most families want to stay at their school. Do you think the Westfield and Centreville families that are not happy with the boundaries redrawn have a Rep who is going to shrug and say that they have to move? If anything, the reps who don’t have schools in play should be more objective.

She doesn't pay attention, regardless of what people here are saying. I have listened in to 3 meetings with her, attended one meeting in person, and follow her FB. She has had to retract 2 FB posts because she was giving out 100% incorrect information.

She wants Fox Mill and Floris to stay at SLHS. She doesn't have the courage to sit down with the people who want to move and explain why she thinks that the schools should stay at SLHS. That is probably because she can't say "We are petrified that the test scores are going to tank after we moved you into SLHS in 2008, when you didn't want to move, to improve test scores."

She most definitely is loud about the process being awful but that is about all that she has got going for her.
The invertebrate also Abstained on the KAA purchase. Yes or No would have required she offend some of her constituents, so she whinged about "process". And her monthly brag sheet says nothing about where she stands on the Skyview redistricting, just that Reid's running the show and the SB gets to yip about it.

Basicallylly, the two SB members are Dixit and Meren. A small portion of Lady's district. That's it. Springfield includes Chantilly, but no or very, very few affected

Is there any school board member that you think is doing a good job?

She held back the first time she mentioned it in her opening comments. One of the board members (Andersen I think) went back at her for clarification, and Reid clearly said then that ES changes were off the table in the next iteration of maps.

Reid clarified that ES boundary changes are off the table, but they will still address feeder issues dealing with the elementary schools.

Yes those were her words in the opening comments, but then when board members went back to clarify she seemed to correct herself in that ES changes were off the table in their entirety. Hoping I'm not wrong...

I believe you are. When I listened Reid was very clear that they were not going to make boundary changes to the elementary schools but that feeder changes were necessary. I didn't hear her go back and change that at any point. Please drop a link to the timestamp where you think that happened.

Agree. It would be idiotic to leave Oak Hill going to Franklin and then on to Skyview by themselves, and same if Crossfield stays at Oakton then it would be idiotic for them to stay at Carson instead of taking Oak Hill's place at Franklin. Every school put in the Skyview pyramid should go to Carson for middle school.

Reid's first comments were at roughly 22:12 ("however we do need to address the elementary feeder patter")
Her response to Andersen's question is at 24:00 which sounded like "yes, ES is on hold"
McElveen at 30:40 echoed what he heard that Reid said the changes will be limited to MS and HS

I just re-listened to this and Ricardy Anderson at 24:00 said, "the high school boundaries will continue... and the elementary work will be at a future date?" I understand the context of her question to be about the boundary work, as in they are saving the elementary boundary work for the next review. I don't believe they are talking about feeders here. Maybe I'm right, maybe you are, or maybe Anderson thinks like you and Reid like me and they are as confused as we are.

Ultimately, yes. They voted to acquire KAA and anyone with a brain could see that meant moving a lot of Westfield kids and a decent number of Chantilly kids into the new school, with Centreville in particular backfilling Westfield.

If they now vote against the obvious consequences of their own prior decisions they look like complete idiots. Better to step up and say they are doing their best to right-size the schools in western Fairfax, several of which have had ginormous enrollments at various times.

Not sure which ones are in play that Frisch represents. Crossfield is mostly Sully with some Hunter Mill. As I recall, at the beginning --last summer--Frisch expressed concern about overcrowding at Oakton.

Yea honestly it's a bit confusing and I could see it needing to be clarified again (hoping Meren does in the afternoon go backs). Problem is I don't know how to interpret "boundary work" vs. "feeder work" in the context of the exchanges. You're either changing ES boundaries, which impact feeders, or you're not.

You can leave all the elementary boundaries (which addresses are in boundary for that ES) alone and still change the middle school boundaries (feeders) to include different ES.
