She held back the first time she mentioned it in her opening comments. One of the board members (Andersen I think) went back at her for clarification, and Reid clearly said then that ES changes were off the table in the next iteration of maps.

Reid clarified that ES boundary changes are off the table, but they will still address feeder issues dealing with the elementary schools.

Yes those were her words in the opening comments, but then when board members went back to clarify she seemed to correct herself in that ES changes were off the table in their entirety. Hoping I'm not wrong...

Meren is such a drama queen. "I have further questions, but I will wait for now, <dramatic pause> because I am still recovering from the emotion from it all." She is nothing more than a wanna be tik-tok influencer born too late so she is trying it for the cameras and on Facebook.

She was the one who was all dramatic during covid about keeping school closed for the SAFETY FOR THE TEACHERS and PREVENTING COMMUNITY SPREAD but had her kids in a paid private school learning pod and in travel sports.

Yep. Pepperidge farm remembers.

Can an HOA block a public high school from putting in a normal stadium with lights etc? I would think not.

Sounds like barely enough to open, but School Board members are going to get slammed over this mess next year.

Only two things can happen:

1. Skyview will have to cut back even further on what it can offer to such a small group of students; or

2. The overhead and cost per student at Skyview will be through the roof compared to other high schools.

This Superintendent and School Board have made such a mess of FCPS.

And this is 800 students that they've enlisted as they've been recruiting from the whole county. This is not kids opting in from only the 5 local high schools.

They had 650 from the 5 local schools, 400 of those were 9th graders. They will have zero issues getting larger classes once the boundaries are set. I am impressed that they have the numbers that they do given that it is going to start with no sports, smaller things like ban and marching band, and fewer electives due to the student body size. If anything, I think the fact that 400 9th graders opted in fromt he 5 local schools is amazing.

Maybe but she is one of the few to challenge Reid. The majority just go along with whatever Reid wants.

I'm sure she's frustrated for consistently being one of only a handful that appear to do any preparatory work or enforce any sort of rigor in the SB process.
Meren and Dr. Anderson do research and come prepared with data and questions. Many of the others vote in a block, mostly to appease Reid rather than meet community needs.
Meren proposed an amendment to put a timeline in place for posting the meeting materials and topics in advance to support better communication and community engagement and her school board colleagues voted against it. If you haven't been watching, start paying attention. Much of this board is a disgrace and their constituents should demand better.

Seriously, the nerve of some of these SB members (except Meren) to walk in and admit they are ignorant to the going ons regarding Western is just another example of their incompetence. They didn’t even take the time to ask meaningful questions. Meren is right to ask…What is the cost for generating another scenario and continuing to delay? What information do these folks need that they don’t already have after a year long process. Seriously they need to get their shi* together or resign immediately.

No legal basis.

WTH is an "air and water track".

They may institute a Lifesaving academy for older high school students. Honestly, that makes sense, if they can do it. But, I think the "air and water track" was a lighthearted remark.

Meren thinks the process is awful but has done little to talk to the families that want to move. We listened to one of her meetings and she said that the only parents she knew who were enthusiastic about Skyview where the parents of disabled kids. She has gone out of her way to avoid talking to Fox Mill ES in an open forum. She has asked questions at meetings that people attneding could answer after reading the FAQ page. She doesn't pay attention, regardless of what people here are saying. I have listened in to 3 meetings with her, attended one meeting in person, and follow her FB. She has had to retract 2 FB posts because she was giving out 100% incorrect information.

She wants Fox Mill and Floris to stay at SLHS. She doesn't have the courage to sit down with the people who want to move and explain why she thinks that the schools should stay at SLHS. That is probably because she can't say "We are petrified that the test scores are going to tank after we moved you into SLHS in 2008, when you didn't want to move, to improve test scores."

She most definitely is loud about the process being awful but that is about all that she has got going for her.

She was saying Skyview would make use of the pool and have an Aviation and CPR/Lifeguarding Pathways - Air and Water like the Air Force and the Army.

fyi, skyview teachers have been phone calling parents of carson parents to pursuade them to go to skyview. I heard that from a carson parent who's kid failed to get into TJ. I guess skyview did not get as many opt-in students.

Mr. Jagels said that they were going to use Carson land to build out the athletic fields and that it will be shared space, like Hughes and SLHS. This makes sense. He also said that construction was going to start in the Outbuildings. He said this at the last Skyview parents/kids meeting.

I don’t want my School Board representative spending more time on Skyview than the schools in her own district.
