Sounds like barely enough to open, but School Board members are going to get slammed over this mess next year.

Only two things can happen:

1. Skyview will have to cut back even further on what it can offer to such a small group of students; or

2. The overhead and cost per student at Skyview will be through the roof compared to other high schools.

This Superintendent and School Board have made such a mess of FCPS.

And this is 800 students that they've enlisted as they've been recruiting from the whole county. This is not kids opting in from only the 5 local high schools.

There are more than enough students who live closer to Skyview than any other high school to populate more than the 2000 seats at the school. Enrollment won't be a problem once the boundaries are set.

example: now they are dropping elementary boundaries which they should not have included in the first place.

Meren is such a drama queen. "I have further questions, but I will wait for now, <dramatic pause> because I am still recovering from the emotion from it all." She is nothing more than a wanna be tik-tok influencer born too late so she is trying it for the cameras and on Facebook.

Regarding the elementary school changes, are those all off the table? I feel like Reid was holding back when she was responding. I’d imagine they could still make a few minor changes if that meant keeping a school within the same pyramid?

She was the one who was all dramatic during covid about keeping school closed for the SAFETY FOR THE TEACHERS and PREVENTING COMMUNITY SPREAD but had her kids in a paid private school learning pod and in travel sports.

That is without boundaries. I think they would have more now if the boundaries were already set. However, you do not seem to understand that once boundaries are set, there will be plenty of kids. You are assuming it is only going to be an "opt in" school. It won't. This is likely the last year of "opt in."

We’re talking about 2026-27. Try and keep up.

Maybe but she is one of the few to challenge Reid. The majority just go along with whatever Reid wants.

Well, they have 800 students who want to be there. I think that is a plus. But, they would have a full house had boundaries been determined. Even without sports.

She held back the first time she mentioned it in her opening comments. One of the board members (Andersen I think) went back at her for clarification, and Reid clearly said then that ES changes were off the table in the next iteration of maps.

They also had on the timeline construction of sport fields, lighting, an asphalt play area, and a stadium. When questioned about where it would be he basically said I have no idea. We'll probably be able to squeeze in a tennis court but it will be smaller than other high schools. There's an HOA that will be challenging and we don't have plans to do anything with the wooded area between carson and skyview. But yeah sure they'll have sports there in a year

I think others also addressed the elementary issue. McDaniel? maybe.

Staff has no idea about "reading" the community. Why in the world are they concerned about single stall bathrooms at this point? Do they really think that is our concern?

I'm sure she's frustrated for consistently being one of only a handful that appear to do any preparatory work or enforce any sort of rigor in the SB process.
Meren and Dr. Anderson do research and come prepared with data and questions. Many of the others vote in a block, mostly to appease Reid rather than meet community needs.
Meren proposed an amendment to put a timeline in place for posting the meeting materials and topics in advance to support better communication and community engagement and her school board colleagues voted against it. If you haven't been watching, start paying attention. Much of this board is a disgrace and their constituents should demand better.

there was more talk about single-stall bathrooms and life-guarding / CPR certifications than anything else. They want an air and water track like the Air Force and the Navy - their words not mine.

Reid clarified that ES boundary changes are off the table, but they will still address feeder issues dealing with the elementary schools.

Andersen, McDaniel, Meren, and I think Lady all addressed it I think.
