Coffee, Tea, Pancake mix, Flour, Sugar, Powdered milk, Rice, Quinoa, Pasta, Oatmeal, plus extra frozen vegetables, fruit, & meat in the freezer.

+1 to what pp lists, but also you may want to just buy the groceries you usually buy but just multiple weeks worth. With the exception of fresh veggies and fruits, most of the things we buy can last a long time in the fridge or freezer.

We’re making sure we have extras of Advil, soap, hand sanitizer, tissues, Claritin, Clorox Wipes, trash bags, Always teen pads and overnights (two young teen daughters), plus instant coffee, etc. Just some extras of stuff we buy at Target. Vitamins.

I’m not actually worried about getting sick, but a brief quarantine or a supply chain disruption seems possible.

As the OP of the travel thread on Rethinking Business travel, I got lots of snarky comments that I must have an untreated anxiety disorder or am paranoid for reconsidering travel to Alabama for three weeks of training in April. I wasn't particularly concerned with Alabama itself, just all the unknowns during a dynamic time. This kind of proves the point.

No, you are still overly anxious.

Yes. You could get infected anywhere. DC is an international city with people coming and going everywhere. I watched a kid in Harris Teeter yesterday pick his nose and wipe it on the side of the redbox machine. Fixating on one place where you could get sick but otherwise going about your normal business is silly. If you aren't worried enough to start keeping your kids home from school, but fixate on travel, your anxiety is irrational.

There are a whole lot of people limiting their travel, stocking up on extra food and avoiding large crowds. I'd say I have a lot of company.

Dude if comes to it, kids will have normal school day at home via chatrooms, emails and google docs et... just like in other countries kids get workload and need to submit few times a day so no messing with screens on a sofa playing games all day long. If you think that it is a vacation you might be surprised.

Also if you are curious how Singapore is dealing with all things school, here is first hand source:

We have had an emergency store of food and water ever since 911 happened. Every year I go through and either donate or use up the items about to expire and then restock.

Packets and cans of tuna, peanut butter, saltines, soup, noodles, canned vegetables, canned beans, chicken broth, rice, etc along with a freezer full of meat, hot dogs, microwave meals and other items. If there was a quarantine, weather related disaster or some other kind of emergency we would be o.k. for awhile.

I always keep an extra container of dog food in case of emergency.

Panic is irrational. Not Keeping informed would be just as irrational. This is simple preparedness consideration to a new situation with lots of unknown. People compare the notes and use collective mind to keep calm and focused.

I think we are 6 months out but it’s going to be bad when it gets here in the US.

Why do you think it will take 6 months to get here? There are already confirmed cases in the U.S. Since 80% of the people who contract the virus don't get that sick form it, it stands to reason that there are more contagious people walking around who might feel fine but are spreading the virus.

Thankfully, the U.S. has decent healthcare. China not so much.

How do you figure 6 mos? It only took about 6 wks for it to go from being bad in Asia to it now becoming a big deal in Western Europe. I’d say 4 weeks max and even then who knows as there’s a ton of travel from Western Europe to the east coast.

Only cities have decent health care. Rest of the country, not so much.

Don’t be so optimistic. About 10-15% of those who get the virus are said to need intensive medical care and ventilators to breathe. Our hospitals will exceed capacity. We aren’t prepared to have thousands of patients on ventilators for weeks. If we don’t have the ventilators now, we won’t when this thing is in full swing in the US.

Kuwait now has its first three cases and Bahrain as its first one. All four are people who have traveled from Iran.

This makes 7 cases imported from Iran since Thursday--Canada and Lebanon each have had a case and the UAE has two.

The coronavirus is now present in 35 countries and territories.

Foreign diplomats in North Korea have been quarantined according to CNN.

"Foreign diplomats in Pyongyang, North Korea, are in isolation due to an ongoing novel coronavirus quarantine, a source inside the country tells CNN’s Will Ripley.

The source agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity, due to what they describe as "paranoia" by North Korean government officials.

Diplomatic staff are not allowed to leave their compounds, the source says. All flights in and out of the country are suspended until further notice.
"“We are basically caught in here,” the source says. “It’s dull and nobody knows how long this will go on for.”"

Embassies in Pyongyang have been told the quarantine measures, which began in early February, will continue until March 1, the source adds.

“Nobody really believes that, given how paranoid the authorities are,” the source says.

Diplomats in North Korea: The exact number of foreign diplomats stationed inside North Korea is unknown, but is estimated to be a few hundred."

Of the group of 39 South Korean Catholics who toured Israel from February 8 to 16, 30 have now been confirmed positive for COVID-19.

The announcement of the first to be confirmed positive sent Israel into a panic and resulted in the quarantining of 1000 South Koreans visiting Israel.
