Tryouts are ID sessions...that's just a play on words

AND YES offers to come out of them. How else would they build a team?

Invitations to practices may come out of these but not outright offers yet.

Players are simply told to keep coming until they are told not to keep coming. I'm getting the feeling that this is more like a ODP style process that will be a more long form process. Kids they like might be told, "thanks we're good, go back to your club and we'll be in touch later this spring". Kids they are not sure on might just get the "keep coming" line and kids they don't want may be told "thanks but no thanks."

I don't think VDA or any DA club is going to go into an inaugural season based on 3 or 4 traditional tryouts. As was stated, they have been looking at their own kids all along as well so they are probably realistically looking at 5-8 spots to fill at say the 04 girls age group.

Agree... These girls DA clubs have partner clubs for a reason, and that is they intend to build the core of their rosters out of the best talent they currently have.

VDA has likely had draft rosters for every age group since they were awarded the DA last summer, and maybe there are some bubble kids or holes they are looking to fill at this point.

FCV had likely assumed they would promote all their ECNL players into DA with their United teams going into ECNL, but now have to change plans with giving up ECNL -- and now with their ECNL players looking to leave they needed a partner like Loudoun to cherry-pick from to fill their DA rosters. Of all the clubs, FCV will be looking for early commitments from players since that's just how they've always operated.

Spirit VA is in the worst shape of all the girls DA because they are truly left to build their rosters from these ID sessions since they lost their partners. I'm sure they had a lot of assumptions about what their rosters could look like last summer with all the clubs involved, but ran into a major change in plans as those clubs left the partnership.

It's interesting though, because 2 of the former Spirit DA partner clubs, Loudoun and BRYC, have quickly moved to good alternatives, Loudoun to the FCV partnership and BRYC to the ECNL slot left behind by FCV. What are Arlington and SYA going to do? Will their girls try out for Spirit DA and have an advantage (or disadvantage)? Girls from all four of those clubs probably already went to the earlier Spirit ID days, before the partnership imploded.

With the girls they keep inviting back. If you are a player at PWSI, VSA or CYA they invite you to a "Friday ID session" or a Saturday. They send the same invitations to outside kids.

This could be a pool of 35-40 kids and then they get to look at them once a week and whittle it down form there.

Where has it been reported that FCV has given up its ECNL slot? That isn't how it works. BRYC was admitted to ECNL as other clubs have been the past several months.

Yeah....ok....then they are dillusion....PWSI will get embarrassed on a national level..they better snatch up the talent as fast as they can...I promise FCV will be smart enough to do that

If that is the case then why were Loudoun and FCV kids at the VDA sessions? Because FCV is "locking them up"?

Because they haven't had tryouts yet....so......kids (parents) looking for multiple offers.

That's a nice story but what kind of "offer" do they think they're getting? If they're out shopping then they're not sold on the partnership that was sprung on them, so they're looking to get out of their current situation.

Presumably FCV has the most to lose by letting talent walk over not sending strong messages to current players by not locking them up sooner?

Ok..u must be a PWSI or VSA parent. You dont understand how much talent is getting combined between FCV and Loudoun. There will be some very talented kids that dont make the roster and will be looking for new teams. VDA is a secondary option...just like BRyc..mclean..etc. VDA should jump on that situation

Thanks so much for posting that. These kinds of studies are fascinating. I have to say, though, that the article itself (but not the study) misses the distinction between being big and being an early maturer. Some early maturers may be big, and some may be small. What they have in common isn't large size, necessarily, but advanced biological age. It's the "older" quality and not the "bigger" quality that provides the advantage coaches misperceive as talent. I do hope in the soccer world we can (a) stop overlooking small but skillful players and (b) stop assuming that tall players with speed and other size advantages are early maturers (there are tall adults, too, after all). I see both types of blindness at our club, which stacks the "A" team with the kids who seem to be the oldest in biological age and populates the "C" team with a circus side-show of "biologically young" tiny skilled players and skinny tall kids whose size gives them certain advantages.
