This is a great question! You would think that they would be asked not to participate until the investigation is complete. In fairness, all football players that were not in the hayfield district last school year should not be allowed to participate in any sport until he externally investigated is complete.

Several of the "transfers" just took basketball roster spots from returning hayfield players. Basketball teams are small. It seems unfair this is being allowd to happen when VHSL and FCPS determined the players were recruited in violation of the rules--and VHSL also pointed out fcps residency checks were not done correctly.

Sounds like VHSL is going to have to step in again. This principal is just flipping the bird to everyone, including families inside his own school.

Hayfield BB beat Woodbridge by 46 points last night. However, I only recognize one name as a football transfer. Hayfield was already a powerhouse in BB.

Hayfield has historically had good winter sports programs, namely boys basketball and wrestling. Multiple region and state championships between those two programs.

It makes you wonder why someone would feel the need to bring in 30 recruits from outside of the building when very good athletes already exist within their boundaries. Unless, you are cheating, your ego is too big, you are lazy or are not a very good coach. Things that make to go…..🤔🤔🤔

If yall are upset at football, wait till you find out about how basketball operates. Not just this area but the entire region from Richmond to Baltimore. Football is lightwork compared to basketball. At some schools having your best player transfer to the better program after their freshman or soph year is expected. AAU and private training runs crazy.

But they at least actually transfer right? And it's not the entire team moving.

There are lots of ways to transfer without transferring. Just go through the hoops to do a specific language and provide your own transit. But you do have to be within FCPS for that. Other counties probably (definitely) have something similar. From what I've heard baseball has a lot of this with travel teams and high school coaches intermingling as well.

Get youth coaches out of HS sports. Too much conflict of interest.

Hayfield added a bunch of transfers after their 32-0 basketball season a few years ago. Majority of their points in the championship game the following years were scored by transfers.

Other state high school athletic governing bodies have rules to at least limit some of it. VHSL should really consider it.

No clue how you'd deal with private coaching, though. Club team coaches are easier because those rosters are posted with their respective governing organizations.

If he dropped all the talent collection he would be able to prove it to everyone. Currently all anyone sees is an all star team put together from youth football. Hayfield was a great opportunity for him because they do have some talent there. If he would have been patient and worked with what was in the building he could have built a consistent Region title contender and if the stars align a state championship. He had no willingness to try that path.

Yeah, you're wrong. He's never proven he can coach. His offensive play calling is pedestrian at best. Also, no one sees an all-star team put together from youth football. They see a collection of illegally recruited players, many of whom he'd never coached before, brought to Hayfield, in many cases possibly so by violating the law. Your last sentence is right though, so there is that. Sweet comment man.

You can’t believe what you just typed can you. How can a person with “pedestrian” as you call it playcallling avg over 45 a game. Then you say they are first year players from wherever that he’s brought in, so again he can do this with KIDS that’s he’s nvr coached before being them all together, put in whatever calls he’s going to use and be able to get the production he’s gotten. Make it make sense. Your football accumen is clearly lacking so please just stop. You must of been one of the coaches that’s been beaten by over 40, lol

Overton’s offense isn’t complicated at all. He runs 2 or 3 base sets and only runs a couple plays out of those sets. It’s honestly very predictable. Screens, draws, play action, snags, posts, slants… The kids execute really well, probably because they have run it for years by now.

Spot-on. Shoot, McGregor runs a more complex offense at DeMatha and that is saying something.

Isn't there a 1 year rule where you have to sit out a year after a transfer?

Not if you meet the VHSL standards for immediate eligibility which have been discussed many times in these threads.
Until a few years ago it was possible to transfer in the middle of the playoffs.

There is a Prince William Sports (private) Facebook page where all of the new Hayfield parents defend the team and the Overtons. Irony.

not for public school. The best players are getting recruited to play WCAC or for independent schools. No standout is transferring from one FCPS school to another, they're transferring to Paul VI or O'Connell on the boys side or Ireton on the girls

Realmonet Ladybroadcaster has a clip from
Hayfield signing day. Overton gives a “shout out” to Dr. T and says “we just getting started.”

John Marshall in Richmond is public. And would probably beat most WCAC teams.

Not always. A standout transferred to Blake from Dematha last year. Kids transfer for different reasons. Ideally the best local kids want to play in the WCAC, but sometimes logistics, economics, politics, and other things may come into play.

They beat PVI last year and PVI played in the national championship.
