Black tie or armband while mourning
Black suit for funerals.
Really, people catch up now.

Seems defiant. Black full-wear like his siblings in the official 8 days of mourning. Black armbands in the full 30 (now 15 because...who knows)

They don’t want to honor the full 30 days of mourning because it would overlap with William and Kate’s anniversary and Charlotte’s birthday. Yes, really. William is that self absorbed.

I know. I wonder what they intend to do for the anniversary 7 days after the official mourning period has cut off. Its not like they can have a wild celebration anyway.

They had a bunch of events planned. It was definitely designed to pivot attention back to William and away from Harry. He must be so annoyed to be overshadowed by yet another member of his family.

What events? Why would a 10-year wedding anniversary be remarkable to anyone other than the couple in question?
Y

William is almost 40. Not a spring chicken. Acting like 10th anniversary at their age is some sort of emergency is plain childish. And the KID's birthday? Phleeeeese......

Hysterical existential problems,

dp depends on how old you are. If over 70, 40 is indeed a "spring chicken" However if you are 18, 40 is old! I think 40 is young since I am 54

Ha! Meghan wasn't there long enough to form a relationship.

True. But I think he found Kate vacuous and stupid. Meghan was interesting and intelligent.

Not at all. Philip’s biographer, Ingrid Seward, said that Philip admired Kate’s athletic abilities and her support of William whilst in the military and then as an air ambulance pilot. Kate’s paternal grandfather was a decorated World War II pilot who few Philip on part of a Commonwealth tour. Two of her aunts also worked at Bletchley, and both Philip and the Queen felt that kinship of war veterans with Kate’s family.

Seward also wrote that Philip was polite to Meghan, but likened her to Wallis Simpson when she and Harry wanted one foot in the royal family and one foot in the States. Philip noted that Diana Spencer and Sarah Ferguson tried what he called the same shenanigans and he shut them out. The Queen refused to allow Philip to attend the Sandringham meeting when Charles, William, and Harry worked out the details of the Sussex’s stepping down. He had likened Meghan too frequently to the other American divorcée — someone the Queen also disliked because of the effect her husband’s abdication had on the Queen and her family.

After that meeting, Meghan was done and dusted with the Queen and Philip.

Why did the Queen "refuse" to allow Philip to attend the meeting?

How did Diana and Fergie try the "same" shenanigans? I don't remember reading that they wanted to resign as royals and step away from royal duties?

Also, H&M's design to step away hardly had as much of an impact as the abdication
of the Queen's uncle, who was king at the time!

+1. PP’s post is illogical word salad. And what is with the strange expressions- shenanigans, divorcee, done and dusted?? What era is this language from?

Well Diana wanted to move to California and was told she couldn't. Fergie did live in the States for some years, I think peddling diet drinks? Not very successfully.

So maybe that's what they're talking about?

William obviously wrote his statement as it is barely literate and Harry obviously got someone to help him with his as it is far better.

And it’s not “word salad” it is clear and informative.

Lots of 'Is' and 'Mys' in William's statement. More than any others. Its sweet and selfish. Also a little petty but we'll go with sweet first.

Looks like all the "loyal" subjects and wsubject wannabies are going to spend this time elbow deep in pile of palace dirty loundry searching for any meat on the bone of gossip, whatever they can find or imagine.

A 99 year old man died. chapter of his life and history of the world closed.
Instead of respectful reflection rhe gossip machinery went to work overtime?

This is nothing short of phenomenon letting people come to terms with their own grief and reflect on their own mortality.

Could the funeral take place earlier considering it all had neen rehearsed. planned and all involved are ready...

But looks like world needs moments like this and while most could not care less about royalty, even those enjoy circuling over death royal.

Anyone coming in from overseas needs to quarantine at least 5 days and test negative. If they did it earlier then Harry would not be able to attend.

Considering their...resentment...of Harry - what makes you think the entire royal family is willing to hold up the funeral just for him?

They could technically just hold it on Tuesday and be done with it. There's no fanfare and Phillip's not actually being buried in the ground until the Queen dies.

So what's the hold up?

Why would they announce that he was flying in for the funeral just to hold it before he could attend? Seems like if that were the goal they would have said something on the front end about him not coming. I also doubt the entire family resents him the Queen wouldn’t speak to him on a regular basis if she resented him, Harry seems in good terms with Eugenia, and I doubt that any of Charles other siblings care one way or another. In fact him leaving is probably to their benefit. The spectacle of it all certainly is a good thing for Andrew and it does seem to have raised the profile of Edward and Sophie.

It’s terrible. Why pay for all that staff just to do this?

Harry and Meghan are really living rent free in his mind if he thought it would be a sick burn to write this pettiness on this occasion.

Flying back for his grandpa’s funeral, being around family at such a solemn time, returning to his homeland, it has to weigh on Harry to have been away when Philip died and to be back to what he knows best. Home is home.

I think it is sad that Archie had no time with Prince Phillip. Even though he is young there would have been many more photos for him to look back in. Hopefully they learn from this and spend more time with the Queen. It would have been nice if Harry had brought Archie back even if Meghan couldn’t travel.

Which part of William's statement is petty? If you are referring to the part where he references Prince Philip being a presence during his hardest days, I'm pretty sure he is talking about the death of his mother.

Admiring someone’s athletic abilities doesn’t really mean you don’t think they’re vacuous and stupid. The world is full of dumb athletes. But I could believe the rest of what Seward said with respect to Kate. But she doesn’t seem to be his type of person. Philip seems to surround himself with young, beautiful, women that are a little scandalous. Like Penny. Meghan seems more in that mold. But I doubt he was with it enough by the time Meghan came around to have a real opinion on any of this stuff. He has looked horrible for the last couple of years and retired from public life for a reason. I also don’t think he was as involved in all of the palace intrigue after he stepped down seeing as he spent most of his time at Wood Farm. Seems unlikely that he was knocking down the door to go talk about someone so far down the line as Harry. Harry and Meghan are a million times less consequential than Diana and the Queen’s uncle were as the mother of the heir and reigning monarch, respectively.
