UVA student missing

Second he did not just rip out of a parking lot. And he didn't just go over the 15 mph speed limit. Because obviously the police could have pulled him over if that was the case. What happened was he drove off very, very fast, so fast that the police decided it was too dangerous to follow.

We have no idea if the police were jerks to him or not, thats just speculation. But he wasn't "trying to help." He went into the station to ask for a lawyer. As a lawyer, I think that was the right thing for him to do. But he clearly did not go in there to talk to the police or help them in any way.

Some of you are fudging the facts to try to show this guy is innocent. We have no idea if he was innocent or guilty. But the facts are the facts.

If he went there to ask for a lawyer, that means he will have a public defender?

I thought in the United States, people are presumed innocent until guilty?

Since this guy is not a "suspect," and not even a "person of interest," it seems to me that some of you are hell bent on closing the case with this guy as totally guilty of something, with absolutely no evidence at all. And yes, he's a scumbag, but plenty of scumbags do what he did every night across America, without being criminals.

Warrant poster up and being distributed.

People want this girl found, and the individual of interest was the last person known to see her. It is understandable that he is of interest. Any word from the bartender that served them?

Not only is he a person of interest, a warrant is out for his arrest. Does that mean he is guilty? No. But I wouldn't say there's "absolutely no evidence." If he was with her the night in question, which seems to be universally accepted, and he didn't do anything to her, why hasn't he told the police what he knows?

Why so much sympathy for this suspect?

Because there were two sexual assaults in the vicinity of where Hannah said that she was lost (14th and Wertland) shortly after she disappeared. I would hate for this guy to be falsely accused and end up driving into a wall, killing himself, only to find that even more girls go missing in Charlottesville. That's why.

But why is he running like crazy if he wasn't involved? If I were hanging out innocently with someone who disappeared, I'd be at the police station immediately telling them what I knew.

Because, if I were him (a young black male) and I found out I was the last person to see a white teenage girl before she went missing, I would be terrified. They are on a mission and were focused on him before this whole station thing went down - all it took was seeing that they were together on video. The justice system isn't always fair and if I was on his end I would be scared as hell if I was innocent. The police have NO IDEA what happened after he was with her and if he can't explain it, he's not in a good position.

Because he is a black man and black men have historically been treated unfairly by the judicial system and some have been convicted of crimes they didn't commit?

They mistook her 12-pack of water for a 12-pack of beer. She panicked and tried to flee the scene. She was arrested and thrown in jail overnight. The charges were recently dropped in court.

More police idiots out to prove something. Assholes.

But, why speed off?? He's not an angst ridden teenager. He's 32.

Just for reckless driving. Not related to Hannah.

Oh please. Initially the video/reports focused on a white guy. This whole THEYRE AFTER HIM BECAUSE HE IS BLACK thing is ridiculous. They're after him because he was the last one seen with her and now he has fled.
