Good to know that it's not out of the question for a few new players to join. We realize it may be tough to pull off but are hoping to make the very late switch from rec to travel. We had been hesitant to consider travel before but our daughter's rec league has shrunk again. Anyway, thanks. |
If you have a specific team or club in mind, you might consider bringing your daughter out to a practice or two before tryouts and ask the coach if he'd be willing to evaluate her. Or at the very least, ask the coach if you and your daughter can observe a practice. Will give you a chance to evaluate the coaching, team interactions, etc in a more 'normal' setting than tryouts. Will also get your daughter familiar with the drills and vocabulary that the team uses which will be helpful and could give her some confidence in tryouts. If she's athletic, coachable and has spatial awareness, she can learn the skills and tactics. Good luck to her! |
Thanks for the great advice. |
What clubs in the DC/Va area are considered top tier for travel? |
Arlington, BRYC, Stoddert, Loudon, MCLean , PWSI, Bethesda, MD United, FC Virginia to name a few. Other clubs may have some great teams/coaches as well at certain age groups. |
Joga SC on the rise |
I saw that and was wondering where they are located. I grew up in the area in travel soccer and my kids are now playing and had not heard of them prior. One of my kids is a stand-out and we are looking to make a switch. |
Yes, where is Joga SC based? Where do the teams practice? Arlington? I saw that their U11 team is ranked pretty high in the mid-atlantic. The Joga SC web site doesn't reveal much -- by design? |
I cant help but wonder if 1 or 2 Joga SC parents or coaches aren't on here pitching the club. Joga should not be mentioned in the same breath as the clubs listed earlier. They have very limited teams and the one team mentioned here owe almost all of their ranking to being in third place in the EDP league. Shouldn't stop you from checking out the club and drawing your own conclusion but from what I've seen, it does not approach more established clubs in terms of coaching expertise, and depth of opportunities but their parents seem to like it alot |
I saw their scores in the ASIST tournament this weekend. They dominated some age brackets. |
I am looking for a club with limited teams. I don't want with 4 per age bracket. |
Big clubs are a business that don't give a crap about the kids. They will openly state it's all about revenue. |
At the younger ages, Joga is closely associated with FPYC, at least for now. The U9 team is all kids who play on FPYC's "A" team during the regular season in NCSL. |
And the head of Joga coaches the top FPYC U12 team. |
Is that the guy who gets in outlandish arguments on Twitter and is moving to Europe, or is that another Joga? |
