Yes, she was tarred and feathered by a secret society of ultra-rich and powerful Beauvoir parents and alum. BTW, it was because she allowed the reputation of the school to be tarnished and all the fancy pearls and Bentley had to be cleaned because we saw Beauvoirs dirty laundry.
Does that make you happy! If it happens again, we'll strap her into old sparky!! Just a little red meat for all the idiotic Beauvoir haters! |
WARNING: If you are an adult survivor of child sexual abuse, please know that the below information might be disturbing to you and make an informed choice about whether or not to read it. ________________________ You are, actually, very ignorant and uninformed (not misinformed) in this area. It has nothing to do with being pc and everything to do with what several decades of research into child sexual abuse has shown. Another poster cited Gavin de Becker, who unlike yourself is an expert in this area: almost 100% of people who sexually abuse children are heterosexual males. The reality is that, for people who abuse pre-pubertal children, there is NOT a significant correlation between sexual orientation (adult object choice) and choice of victim in terms of gender. There are different kinds of child abusers. Essential groupings include (keep in mind that this is over-simplified and there are points of overlap in given situations): incest abusers, child rapists, and pedophiles. Child rapists are people who are primarily gratified by the power of the act and are almost always heterosexual men who might also rape adults when they are able. Incest abusers very rarely abuse outside of their families or step-families and are also invariably heterosexual. Which leaves pedophiles. Pedophiles are people who are sexually attracted to children. This means that they are sexually stimulated by the ABSENCE of secondary sex characteristics, as well as by the relative innocence and non-threatening nature of children. While a pedophile might have a preference in terms of gender, it is the CHILDNESS of a child, rather than the child's gender that is important. Any child will do given the right circumstances for these people. They usually have a limited ability to tolerate adult sexual and emotional intimacy and experience themselves as relating better to children than to adults. Nevertheless, some do have relationships with adults and the VAST MAJORITY of these are heterosexual relationships. These men are often thought by others to be "good with" kids. The Catholic Church abuse scandal was a more complicated situation than what is alleged to have happened at Beauvior. It involved both the abuse of pre-pubertal children and the abuse of teenagers. It is more complex than I am willing to get into here, but I will comment briefly about the difference between the two types of abuse. People who are attracted to teenagers - whether the teenagers are young men or young women - are attracted by the PRESENCE of emerging secondary sex characteristics. So, in general, there does tend to be a correlation between these abusers adult sexual orientation and their object choice. However, again, the vast majority of these abusers are heterosexual men. And, it is important to note that this type of abuse is in many ways promoted by our culture which exploits barely post-pubescent physical characteristics as the erotic ideals (witness strip clubs, teenage girl fashion models, Abercrombie & Fitch ads, etc.). This type of abuse is primarily about betrayal of a power dynamic and/or a relationship of trust. I hope this is clarifying. |
Maybe because that makes you feel right at home? |
Actually this is not true. Sexual identity is much more complex than you realize. There are many situations where men have sex with men and the men involved do not believe themselves to be homosexual. |

I have been monitoring the development of this extremely unfortunate incident (at every level) since it broke last June. My frustration with what really does appear to be something of a news blackout in combination with the lack of substantive information available through the Beauvoir families that we know finally led me to become more proactive in seeking details on this topic and to this forum. I have done so because I have a single specific question and a very good reason for asking it.
But before I proceed I will disclose that I have absolutely no ax to grind with Beauvoir or its community. We applied for K, got waitlisted (as expected due to the lack of positions available to new families in that grade) and are quite happily attending another of the many excellent private schools in this area. We attended Beauvoir camps for three years (two of which were after we got waitlisted) and have a number of friends whose children currently attend the school and have nothing but positive things to say about it. So, back to my question. Can someone please tell me if this mystery teacher was involved in Beauvoir's summer camp in 06 and if so, what role/position did he have? Depending upon the answer, I will either go away or disclose further (potentially relevant) information. |
| PP. This is the type of question that you should directly address with Beauvoir rather than asking people on this board who might provide inaccurate information. If you attended camp there, you should definitely be able to get Beauvoir to answer the question for you. |
"The teacher that is the focus of the police investigation did not participate in the Summer Program during his time at Beauvoir." This was part of the statement that we received (via email prior to the start of camp) from the Director of Auxiliary Programs and the Beauvoir Summer Program. |

Thanks to the poster who had good facts about pedophilia. I am reading this all and wondering what makes one of the PP think the teacher was gay. No one has said that, and in fact, as a parent of a child who had him for a teacher, most of us assumed he was assexual as he expressed little interest ever in dating or anything (men or women). He tended to befriend the moms of the kids in his classes, and become closer with them. But never anything romantic, just attached himself to them perhaps because they were more prevalent in the classroom. Who knows. The real question is why can't they find him.
And to answer the PP who asked about the head of the school, to my knowledge, she is there. It has been one tough year and I almost even feel sorry for her. But the board (hand picked basically) has not held anyone at the school accountable. Don't forget they have lawyers and a crisis communication firm working on their behalf and to fire anyone (or something similar but less severe) might indicate culpability. |
Thank you for providing a direct answer to my direct question w/out admonishment. I am heartened to find that it is possible to unearth a nugget of truth even in this most volatile of forums and encourage all participants to stick to the high road in discussing this troubling topic. I am most relieved to be able to re-file the occurrence I had in mind under the umbrella of completely innocent and inconsequential misunderstandings. My heart goes out to all of those at Beauvoir as well as those in the greater DC community (let's not forget that two of the three boys did not attend this school). |
|
to the PP at 10:55, where did you hear that 2 of 3 boys did not attend the school?
I have not heard that (and I am a Beauvoir parent). Can you please clarify? 2 of 3 boys in the pictures in the camera discovered that day? (Other evidence may exist). I am not sure what you mean. |
Gay, gay, gay. Not that there's anything wrong with it. |
Hah, funny! |
A little defensive, maybe? I am the poster who asked if there were consequences for xxxx. I didn't say that I believed that there should be or that there shouldn't be. I merely asked a question. I think it's a fair question. Had it been any other school I would have asked the same question about the head/principal. [ADMIN: posted edited to remove a name] |
This was the impression I gathered last night when I read all 36 pages of this thread in one sitting, as well as reviewing the links to the few local news reports which had picked up on this topic. I am not implying that I know anything for a fact. I came across multiple mentions of photos involving more than one boy (three being the most conservative) and also came across a few mentions that one of them was for sure a Beauvoir student. My point, however, was that this does not appear to be limited to just Beauvoir families and my heart is breaking for everyone who is either directly or indirectly involved. |
A PP used this exact quote to characterize the Beauvoir teacher in question:
This description is a major red flag in identifying a potential pedophile. Truly, it is spot on behavior of one in a position of power and closeness to children who is looking to abuse the child(ren). I have read several books and papers about "identifying" pedophiles and, while most experts agree that it is a difficult task, to recognize these people, the above description of the accused teacher is the exact type of behavior/characteristsic that should make a parent suspicious of a person who works closely with their child(ren). I am a bit surprised that no one at Beauvoir noted this, especially the propfessionals, but it is true that you often "can't see the forrest for the trees." |
