Right? This was part of the plan. The insurrectionists broke into the capitol building with zipties, yelling "Where's Pelosi". What were they going to do once they had Pelosi in the zipties? Tickle her to death?

I'm sure they would've preferred that Nancy Pelosi was the one this guy tried to murder and not the husband.

It is absolutely terrifying to think what would have happened if she had been there.

IDC if you like her or not, the attack on her husband is abhorrent. IDC if you like Whitmer or not, the attempt to kidnap her is abhorrent.

But, then you have Tom Dixon, GOP running for governor of Michigan, who laughed about the latter, saying: "“The sad thing is that Gretchen will tie your hands, put a gun to your head and ask if you are ready to talk. For someone so worried about getting kidnapped, Gretchen Whitmer sure is good at taking business hostage and holding it for ransom,” Dixon said at one event.

Later that day, in describing a recent appearance by Whitmer, Dixon said, “The look on her face was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, this is happening. I’d rather be kidnapped by the FBI.”"

Be very, very afraid of future violence if you vote GOP. If you have examples of GOP condemning the jokes, conspiracy theories, and violence, please feel free to post them. And, I mean true condemnation, not some lightweight equivocating statement.

Nothing makes much sense. That's why I'd like to see the video released. Unless they have no cameras running?

The man thought he was Jesus, according to his ex.

You are not entitled to see video of the assault. Believe whatever you want to believe. You will anyway.

I don't believe one way or the other. What I'm seeing is a story where the details keep shifting. The audio recording conflicts with the statement. Then they retracted their statement that someone opened the door that clearly wasn't the Pelosi or his attacker, because both had their hands on the same hammer. Pelosi was able to take a bathroom break and use his phone in the bathroom. He could have simply told the police there was an intruder in the house, but he said it was a friend, David. He must have sounded confused because they did a wellness check. At his age, he very well could have been confused, and that's just fine. The important thing is the police got to the scene on time. People are asking to see footage because of all the changes to the details of what happened.

Either way, his neighbors and his Ex-Wife have made it perfectly clear that the man was decidedly mentally unwell. People here want to state that he is mentally well but being MAGA makes him mentally unwell. That''s, well, insane He's mentally unwell because he thinks he's Jesus and talks to angels, etc. The media seems to want to ignore that fact. Inconvenient? I don't know.

Again, what entitles you have access to the video? The police have it. The guys lawyer will have it. The prosecutor will have it. This isn’t a TV show scripted for your entertainment. It looks like the guy broke in, went looking for Nancy. Paul P woke up. The guy didn’t attack right away. He asked where’s Nancy? PP talked to him, was able to call police, tried to keep him calm until the cops got there. The cops coming in may have triggered the guy to go for the hammer and he hit Paul with it. We don’t need to know every detail. We know there was a break-in and an assault and who was the intruder/assailant and who was the victim.

I didn’t say I was entitled. I said it would help clear up what happened. What you state happened is what you are being told happened, but again, that story has changed three times so far at the very least. Imagine this was George Floyd and you just had to take the police version of what happened, that there was no video of any kind. Imagine if we were told as a nation that we were not entitled to see that, that you don’t need to know every detail.

It’s extremely clear what happened. Only MAGA are questioning what happened! You are all so looped into conspiracy theories that you are incapable of seeing reality.

If its so obvious, there is no reason to hide the bodycam/security cam/dashcam footage.

We can also explain how he got to the house.

So if your house gets broken into, you think the public has a right to see the video from inside the house, even before it's submitted for evidence in a trial? We can all just check you out?

If my house getting broken into becomes and the focal point of a nationwide slander attempt with my surrogates claiming its a politically motivated assassination attempt right before an election, and I don't do anything to tamp that down right quick, then yes. There are all sorts of people who could clarify the situation with a word or the stroke of a pen, but do not want that to happen.

If my house getting broken into It was more than that, a man was beaten to the point of needing immediate surgery.

becomes and the focal point of a nationwide slander attempt slander against a man whose name I can't even recall? Why is that an issue, the police caught him redhanded.

with my surrogates claiming its a politically motivated assassination attempt right before an election surrogates? It happened weeks before the election, "right before" is debatable. While we don't know if it was politically motivated, we must look at the facts of what has happened prior. The GOP wanted to attack Nancy Pelosi on 1/6. Here's an article outlining the GOP rhetoric around Pelosi, starting with "In 2009, the Republican National Committee ran an advertisement featuring Ms. Pelosi’s face framed by the barrel of a gun — complete with the sound of a bullet firing as red bled down the screen..." https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/30/us/politics/pelosi-attack-republican-threats.html

and I don't do anything to tamp that down right quick, then yes. Why would the Dems state now that it was not politically motivated based on the facts above?

There are all sorts of people who could clarify the situation with a word or the stroke of a pen, but do not want that to happen. No amount of clarification would appease someone as argumentative as you. Please just be honest about it.

So let the bad-faith political disinformation set the agenda? Stop gaslighting. There is no controversy here. Only right-wing disinformation.

Who are these ghouls demanding to see coverage of this attack?? You seriously want to SEE THAT??! The man is still in the ICU, potentially fighting for his life. And you want confirmation that he was attacked, what, in the right way? He was attacked. Point blank. No doubt about it. But you want to watch it like it's a GD episode of CSI? What is the matter with you people?

A deranged man committed an act of political violence, likely as a result of a discourse and culture (promoted mostly on the right), that promotes it. It’s a tragedy. Paul Pelosi is still in the ICU three days later. And Republicans like Don Jr and Ted Cruz are making a mockery because they’re terrible people.

My nephew had surgery to clean up a skull fracture. He spent 4 days in the ICU and another 5 in the neuro step down unit. He was 18 at the time.

Let. This. Sink. In.

There was an assassination attempt against the Speaker of the House and the Republican Party will not condemn it.

The perpetrator is mentally ill, but that doesn’t change the fact that the attack was also politically motivated. When a guy who doesn’t personally know Nancy Pelosi breaks into her house and yells, “Where’s Nancy?” it’s clear that this was no random attack. He brought zip ties and he didn’t steal items and then leave. Of course the police need to do a thorough investigation, but it’s not as though the motive is entirely unclear.

"If my house getting broken into becomes and the focal point of a nationwide slander attempt with my surrogates claiming its a politically motivated assassination attempt right before an election..."

So... is your theory that Pelosi had her own husband beaten almost, apparently, to death? Or is she just seizing an opportunity here? "My husband was almost beaten to death so let's leverage this situation for Dems"?

Maybe she doesn't yet have the answers you seem to be so sure exist. That's why there has to be a full investigation. Timely yes, but not rushed. And a thorough review of the videos etc. before they are released.

Instead of getting upset that your party is being accused of hate rhetoric, why don't Rs come out and universally condemn, all political violence, and every time something like this happens, remind people that Republicans have been consistently clear that political violence is unacceptable, and challenge Dems to do the same? Since you know, both sides and all that. And make that a part of your party platform instead of hate speech?

Alleged assailant filled blog with delusional thoughts in days before Pelosi attack

[i]… David DePape, 42, also published hundreds of blog posts in recent months sharing memes in support of fringe commentators and far-right personalities. Many of the posts were filled with screeds against Jews, Black people, Democrats, the media and transgender people.

He published a drawing of the Devil kneeling and asking a caricature of a Jewish person to teach him the arts of “lying, deception, cheating and incitement.” Several contain lifelike images of rotting human flesh and blood, including a zombified Bill Gates and Hillary Clinton. Others depict headless bodies against bleak, dystopian landscapes.

Yes, but didn't you hear? He once lived in a house in Berkeley that has a pride flag out front, therefore he must be a deranged liberal.

So what is the story that you think actually happened? Who's in on it? I don't have a clear picture of the conspiracy here yet. Capitol police don't protect the personal residence 24/7, that has already been stated by authorities, do you think all of those authorities are lying? That all Capitol Police who would know if this was true or not are witholding comment on the truthfulness of that? That would extend to a lot of people, right? Their friends, families, etc? All staying mum because they all have been personally threatened or something? I'm trying to piece together your logic of how this actually is working, can you help me?
