Of course this seems politically motivated. How is that a stretch to go there? It is an assumption, for sure, but a pretty reasonable assumption. If proven false, and it's random violence, that will come out, but come on, of course people thing Speaker Pelosi was the likely target, just like a break-in at Mar-A-Lago wouldn't be considered random either.

Whether or not it was a Proud Boy or a homeless drug addict who assaulted Pelosi, the assault itself is a force multiplier. The assault will give pause to all sorts of Democrats in Congress who think, if this could happen in a Democratic Speaker's home, then what could happen to any of us. You'll get Democrat representatives being less aggressive in Congress, Democrats less willing to run for Congress, Democrats less willing to volunteer for political campaigns, and Democrats less willing to vote.

The cost to political participation then for Democrats will be higher than for Republicans, who are far less likely to face any of these things. Yes, Steve Scalise says hi, but the one crazy person going after him is the exception that proves the rule.

+1 It would be an absolutely horrific assault for anyone and especially for an elderly person, regardless of the person's health. I truly can't imagine and hope he really will be able to recover.
