Affairs: Who is more likely to have them, men or women?

Most surveys I've seen show men more likely to have affairs than women, but I question this. First of all, it's just plain easier for women to get laid, so an affair would be easier for a woman to pull off. Secondly, I think the same principle is at play as when men and women talk about their "number." In other words, men are more likely to exaggerate the number of women they've had sex with while women do the opposite.

| Men get caught more... because the women are better at knowing what to look for because they have more experience with hiding them. I know surveys show that men are more likely to cheat... but I totally agree with your premise that women have more opportunity to cheat and therefore are in reality probably doing more than people think. |

It'd be interesting to see where these studies get their data. If it's self-report its a little suspect. Marriage counselors or divorce proceedings might be a better source.

| There isn't a whole lot for SAHM to do while husband is away at work... It doesn't take all day to pick up kids from school and order takeout. If they wanted to there is plenty of opportunity. |

Women. Easy to find an AP and easy to not get caught bc men rarely suspect. Women are also more likely to keep secrets. Every woman I know has at least one secret she is taking to her grave and has shared with maybe only one other soul.
I know women who aren't sure of their kids' paternity, who have faces extensively reworked by plastic surgery in their teens/early 20s that they are pretending are theirs naturally (so common among Jews), who have slept with their husband's relatives, who have had multiple abortions while espousing pro-life beliefs, or who deliberately got pregnant to trap a man while acting shocked to be knocked up, who have done all sorts of things. And they go about with straight faces never thinking of telling DH. Men, on the other hand, often either confess or get sloppy with the evidence. Then DW goes nuts as if she hasn't done worse, lol. |

In my sphere of family and friends with whom I have first hand knowledge as a result of divorces and juicy stories it was the woman who cheated most often. I don't have an actual count but no question of the ones I know about it was women probably two to one.
My theory is that it varies by social class and maybe income. The wealthier and/or more powerful the man is I think the pendulum shifts towards him cheating more than her. As you slide down the Class scale it swings towards women cheating more. Again, just my theory. It really comes down to opportunity. Wealthy and/or powerful men can find partners with ease. Men lacking that will have a harder time finding another partner. Women on the other hand can get laid anywhere anytime regardless of class or income. |
