It cannot be argued that the average quality level of the teams in DA has been seriously weakened with all the high-profile departures within the last year. For anyone reading a thread about ID sessions for a DA team, it would seem to be a relevant fact in considering whether to join a DA team.

At this point, DA in 2019-20 has to be considered a second-tier league from a national perspective. Regionally, nothing has really changed for DA and ECNL teams in VA. MD teams in ECNL find themselves in a much tougher regional league with the additions of PDA, FC Stars and, next year, NYCFC.

Well regionally kinda matters when that is where you play. You keep acting like you actually play PDA or Michigan Hawks. FCV isn’t even in ECNL and has played against PDA this year more than you ever will.

Is the # of times a team plays PDA a metric for success? If so, point to ECNL. We are all aware FCV played PDA. FCV lost 0-7 then their parents had a royal rumble on the sideline.

Honestly I have no idea why anyone brings them up at all since no one's conference includes them AND no one has kids on that team.

People are asking all the wrong questions.

Geee I don't know why PDA is brought up? (See bolded) But it is the ECNL crowd bringing up ECNL in a WA Sprit DA thread not the other way around.

.

You cited playing them in a showcase like it was a badge of honor. Move on.

Almost as bad as moms tweeting nonsense about how many years up their daughter is playing.

You can't look at scoreboards to see the improvement because the VA side has been plagued by large rosters and play ups. Spirit VA took on players they shouldn't have and played up players the shouldn't have. That impacts the entire squad for multiple age groups.

Since you choose to pick on the U17s, they have an excellent 03 goal playing on the 19s, a first class 02 centerback again up on the 19s, and a midfielder and a forward. All of these players could have been difference makers of the 17s.

The 17s have also constantly had players thrust on them that shouldn't be there, on the field and in goal.

All of the teams have had this problem. Tighten the rosters, move players to their correct age group, and see the difference. Some people think if your kid isn't playing up, they aren't good, which is ridiculous. Great players play at age all the time.

Lol. Agreed. However, enjoy your playups this weekend.

Don't the Spirit 17s have even more players up with the 19s lately? And also some injuries? Are the people playing up there because the younger rosters are bloated or because the 17s roster is lean and there are two games this weekend in warmer weather than we've had lately? Have you considered that not all play ups actually want to play up -- sometimes it's a sucky gig. You often play way less than you would at age, and may or may not be involved in much of the play on the field when you are on it because the players don't know you well. Not making excuses, but the tone of this thread is always that coaches are yielding to parents demanding their kid play up. That certainly is the case some of the time, but not always.

I agree with some of what you said. Some players don't want to play up but are forced to. With our massive 04 roster, players play up because it's a way to give time to more players. We had the same crap last year. We have too many, so if the 17s have even one opening, we stuff a player in there to give more playing time all around. It's a sucky gig and that is never how playing up should be allocated.

And others are from parental demand. They want their kids rostered on the older team, these kids see a ton of time, and performance doesn't seem to factor in.

The anti play-up Spirit 02/03 parent is back.............can we get another 40 pages of their rant about players playing up? My daughter plays at one of the ECNL clubs....and even i can't stand to see the whining start again.........

That troll never left. That's why any topic remotely related to WS on this forum becomes a mess. Between that troll and the parents of a younger player who couldn't make the cut, and those who are jealous of the 2007, lots of hatred on this forum.

WS DA is a mess. That's why the thread is a mess. And it may get messier.

May is going to be incredible. Can’t wait.

Is WS even going to run DA next year?

Why is everyone saying this? What earth shattering revelation is coming in May for Spirit?

Who is the everyone ..and what are they saying?

I’m not sure why they would be having ID sessions if there are no plans to run the WS VA branch for Spirit next year. Unless the DA league decides their record isn’t strong enough to continue next year. Seems like a stretch for a DA tied to a women’s NWSL team.
