Excellent in what way?
You can't look at scoreboards to see the improvement because the VA side has been plagued by large rosters and play ups. Spirit VA took on players they shouldn't have and played up players the shouldn't have. That impacts the entire squad for multiple age groups. Since you choose to pick on the U17s, they have an excellent 03 goal playing on the 19s, a first class 02 centerback again up on the 19s, and a midfielder and a forward. All of these players could have been difference makers of the 17s. The 17s have also constantly had players thrust on them that shouldn't be there, on the field and in goal. All of the teams have had this problem. Tighten the rosters, move players to their correct age group, and see the difference. Some people think if your kid isn't playing up, they aren't good, which is ridiculous. Great players play at age all the time.
0 Lol. Agreed. However, enjoy your playups this weekend.
Don't the Spirit 17s have even more players up with the 19s lately? And also some injuries? Are the people playing up there because the younger rosters are bloated or because the 17s roster is lean and there are two games this weekend in warmer weather than we've had lately? Have you considered that not all play ups actually want to play up -- sometimes it's a sucky gig. You often play way less than you would at age, and may or may not be involved in much of the play on the field when you are on it because the players don't know you well. Not making excuses, but the tone of this thread is always that coaches are yielding to parents demanding their kid play up. That certainly is the case some of the time, but not always.
I agree with some of what you said. Some players don't want to play up but are forced to. With our massive 04 roster, players play up because it's a way to give time to more players. We had the same crap last year. We have too many, so if the 17s have even one opening, we stuff a player in there to give more playing time all around. It's a sucky gig and that is never how playing up should be allocated. And others are from parental demand. They want their kids rostered on the older team, these kids see a ton of time, and performance doesn't seem to factor in.
The anti play-up Spirit 02/03 parent is back.............can we get another 40 pages of their rant about players playing up? My daughter plays at one of the ECNL clubs....and even i can't stand to see the whining start again.........
