This picture was in the old man's room and Lucia saw it and did a sign of the cross. Apparently it's St. Lucy:

"Santa Lucia (Saint Lucy) is a Catholic saint who was born in Syracuse, Sicily, in 283 AD and was martyred at the age of 20...Lucia vowed at a young age to live her life in the service of Christ. Lucia’s mother attempted an arranged marriage for her daughter to a pagan man. When Lucia refused, the angry suitor reported her to Roman authorities, and Lucia subsequently was sentenced to life in a brothel and forced into prostitution."

What podcast? Sounds interesting.
I’m enjoying the season and love all yalls commentary. Some brilliant people on these boards.

Really? I see a lot of posts by people who just like to hear themselves talk.

Hey, I'm not posting three or four paragraphs about what I think is going to happen.

Why not? That's kind of the point of a thread like this. I mean, we could all come here and just report our opinion of the show, but a thread full of "It seems okay but I was disappointed in the third episode. Will probably watch the rest because my DH likes it." or "Theo James is soooooo hot, I hope they don't kill off his character" gets stale fast.

If it were intelligent discussion, ok. But I've seen a lot of mocking characters for potentially being gay or bisexual, mocking characters for being unattractive, mocking people for being "working class potential rapists," etc. It's actually a kind of ugly thread.

Why would you be on a thread about a TV show if not to post your observations and speculations and engage with what other people think is happening? That's what it's for.

Oh my goodness who is mocking for someone being gay or bi?
Talk about crazy projections.

Harper is really trying and looks like she suspected they have trouble in their marriage before, hence constant comparison “we are fine” etc. but this vacation really showed her the flaws in the marriage.

As we know with this show usually people don’t change and if they survive they probably will go back to what they were-miserable couple.
Or this season might have a different dinamic if alltogether.

Someone earlier said the previews show Harper will get with Cameron, and then Ethan will attack Cameron underwater and possibly kill him.

I think if that happens, following the whole alpha male storyline of the show, it will "fix" Ethan and Harper's relationship. Ethan will feel powerful and Harper will feel attracted. And they will turn into the seemingly happy couple that Cameron and Daphne once were, and now Daphne will be a widow. Though, same as Cameron and Daphne, maybe Ethan and Harper won't actually like one another anymore.

Too predictable.

The least expected thing will happen.

But-- didnt' we see Portia tell girls in the first episode that she'd had a great week? Doubt she'd say that if her husband had been murdered. I think more likely, she and Cameron will end up fine...because careless people like them usually do. Harper and Ethan will break up.

I assume you mean Daphne, not Portia.

I don't think Daphne was being honest in that opening scene. The whole thing was a bit off. She seemed to get the girls attention so that she could talk to them (establishing an alibi maybe?) and her comments about having a great week are already suspect because we know for a fact that she and her husband got into a fight, she went and got high in Noto with a woman who doesn't like her very much, and her husband stayed behind and got wasted and had sex with a couple of prostitutes. Even if the hotel is amazing, she did not have a "great week." She had a weird one.

I agree with this. I didn't think Daphne was really feeling what she was saying.

Also, maybe she doesn't know Cameron is dead at that point. Maybe his body is the one she finds?

Ooooh, this is very Dateline-y. You tell some randos at the beach that you had a great week and that "we" are leaving in a few hours. Swim out to the ocean where you know you left your husband's (and others) bodies and then run back on the beach in a panic that you saw dead people! Then you do a Keyser Soze. I like it.

No, people were dumping on Ethan as a beta male, small-dicked, and gay, simply because he didn't want to have sex with his spouse. If that is the sole condition for being gay, seems to me there are a ton of wives on DCUM that are apparently lesbians.

This is just a theory. And yes he is beta male and it is ok to be beta. Majority of alphas are in prison anyways.

Then report those posts -- I don't want to see those either. I guess I just skim past the posts that seem dumb to me.

But lots of people have posted smart and interesting theories and commentary in this thread and you aren't adding anything by criticizing people who are writing more involved analysis. That's what this thread is for. If you don't like that, go elsewhere.

I have seen plenty of Albie, who gets married in mid 20s, and have 2-3 kids, ascend corporate ladder and be extremely well off.
It’s the Essex dude who can get a few women and then he will be shopping for viagra at 40. By then no one wants him.

Uh, no. Mike White is gay.

He is Bi.
And his previous work with Laura Dern has a similar theme.

It is an ugly show. That is kind its whole vibe. How the veneer of wealth and elitism covers up unsavory and uncomfortable realities. And how those uncomfortable and unsavory realities can exist in the working class population as well in ways that are both different and the same.

I don't see people mocking those characters but rather exploring what is going on.

As for my thoughts (which surely pp doesn't care about)

1) I can't believe I didn't figure out Daphne was the woman on the beach in the first episode, totally missed that somehow!

2) Re the two couples I think Harper is genuinely disturbed about what she found, knows he's hiding something and is deeply upset that he's not telling her. I also agree I think she does doubt that he cheated on her. And clearly Cameron is into her. I think he is jealous of Ethan's success and wants to sleep with Harper. He is attracted to her. I think she is not actually attracted to him, but she is/was attracted to their relationship. She wants their easy breezy love and does feel threatened by it so is looking for weak points. I think Ethan is definitely having a lot of power dynamic flashbacks and I do agree there is likely a very ugly incident somewhere in their past. I think Daphne is probably the most confident and self aware of the bunch. She knows who Cameron is, she knows what the trade offs are, she wants to shop and see the sights. I don't think Harper will sleep with Cameron, but I think he will try to assault her. And I think Ethan will let her down in the aftermath.

3) Tanya, I dunno. I think Greg has gotten back with his ex wife but trying to stick around for the dough. I think a subplot of the season is how badly children can be damaged by their rich parents. Albie, Tanya, the unseen sister, even Cameron and Daphne's unseen kids being left behind by their parents I don't think its the star of the show but I think it is in the background. Tanya was a damaged child who has grown into a damaged childlike adult. The gays, I am honestly not sure what their motivation is, probably a grift of some sort.

4) Valentina is gay and trying to win over the receptionist right? Maybe this is supposed to be a female romantic relationship to juxtapose against the male romantic relationships. TBD on the deeper meaning or whatever here

5) Mia and Lucia - uncomplicated and honest. I think one of them dies, probably Mia. They are trying to use everyone to their advantage, underestimating the danger they are in. They are the only characters who don't seem to understand how cruel the world they're in is even if they are playing by cruel rules

6) The italian guys - I think Laura Dern shows up at some point. I think Albie ends up disappointing himself sometime in the next few episodes by becoming what he hates, at least temporarily. I think he catches his dad cheating at some point. But I think Albie will get angry at a woman sometime in the coming episodes and he will act in a way that brings him a lot of shame, I hope I'm wrong as he seems like the most redeemable at the moment.

7) Portia. I think she is the most boring character. She is clearly everything she herself hates. I think she will be like the daughter in season 1 and exit without having grown at all and be a general disappointment. But she'll get fired first.

Ahh I just had a thought. I am the pp who listed everyone out by numbers. If someone has said this sorry I didn't read everything because I just caught up last night.

What if Greg is working with the gays and the intention is actually to kill Tanya so greg gets all the money. He leaves so he has a perfect alibi and he's mad Portia is there because having someone looking out for Tanya puts the plan at risk. He knows she's easy to pick up on a vacation because of Hawaii.

Yes I suggested this on the last page of the thread, based on someone saying that Theo James said in an interview that Greg was the "nastiest" character on the show.

What if the old grandpa is actually a killer hired by Greg?

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS: In the promo ad for the series, there is a 1-2 second shot of some lady's heavily manicured hands picking up a gun next to a giant roll of electrical/similar tape -- the kind you would use to bind someone's hands. I think this is Tanya discovering some plan by Greg etc. to kill her, so maybe she comes out alive. (Also apparently Mike White the creator suggested he wanted Tanya around for Season 3, so unless that's set up as a prequel, she probably does make it out alive.)

Theory: Tom Hollander/ Quentin is Greg’s husband/partner.
