What’s going on with the two bills?

Thread:

Do you like paying $3 per gallon for gas? DC Dems' spending spree is fueling the HIGHEST INFLATION in 4 decades. Another $4.5 trillion in government spending should help that... (3/x) independent review suggest otherwise

$330 BILLION more in incentives for people to reap government benefits while sitting at home that showing up to work - that should help labor participation that is 1.8 million workers behind where the Congressional Budget Office says we should be. (4/x) these are not incentivies for people to sit at home, these are benefits for people already working

Debt limit!!!...Remember that topic? Anyone? Well good news, this bill makes it WORSE by adding $3 TRILLION in NEW debt. (5/x) GOP passed an unfunded tax bill in 2017 that exploded debt and deficit spending with ZERO benefit to the national collective. I don't want to hear ANY complaints about fiscal irresponsibility now, particularly when this bill actually results in improved conditions for the average American

Are IRS audits your thing? Would you like doing them annually? Starting on page 1923, this bill has $80 BILLION to DOUBLE the number of IRS agents... (6/x) So catching people cheating on taxes is a bad thing? I thought we wanted law an order?

Decisions. Decisions. Spend more on the wealthy 1% or more on working families. Easy decision I suppose for Democrats. The tax break they inserted giving millionaires a $23k tax cut is more than double the cost of what they spend on the children or earned income tax credits.(7/x) they can means test or grade out SALT, and should

Based on the average home price and average income, a constituent of Nancy Pelosi would be eligible for $82,000 for a government subsidy to help buy a new home. No typo there. $82,000! (8/x) Yes, which is why it should be graded out, so this doesn't happen

Families making $500,000 shouldn't be given subsidies for luxury electric vehicles? Well, on page 1480, the bill includes a $12,500 tax break for them to purchase EVs in this bill. Targeted relief indeed! (9/x) so let's take out the oil and gas subsidies to the owners of wells as well

Do you think illegal immigration and open borders are a problem now? Wait until the cartel hears about the benefits under this bill, which includes $100 billion for BACKDOOR AMNESTY with 5-year renewable work visas. (10/x) The worker crunch is more inflationary than anything else right now...having immigration will help keep wages lower, so you can't complain about inflation AND this. Pick one.

But wait! If you’re wealthy, the news gets better. On page 226, taxpayers will be paying for your kids to go to preschool. And on page 1065, the wealthy get taxpayer-funded paid leave…over $3200 for a month! Uh, YOUR kids can go to pre-school as well. This is extending public education fro the age of 6 to the age of 4. That is good for any working family with kids

Surely "building back better" does something about the border crisis, right? Nope. “Border Security” and "Border Control" is listed in the 2100+ pages exactly ZERO times. It was in the other bill, duh

Getting Americans out of Afghanistan? Zero mentions. Surely there's something about holding China accountable for covid, right? Nope, zero. Nada. Nothing. All Americans who wanted out of Afghanistan are already out. Redd herring

But hey! If you've been thinking about buying a taxpayer-funded electric bike, this is the bill for you! It’s in there. That is great. We should do everything we can to make our transportation options carbon neutral. Look at cities in Europe...eBikes have been transformative and....the bikes are made in the USA - more jobs, more domestic manufacturing. I thought that was a good thing, you know, American First, right?

And after Thursday afternoon's revision, they quietly slipped an additional 10 pages into the bill late Thursday night. What did they add? Funny you ask, an additional $7,500 of tax relief for the 1%! I don't know what this is referring to...source or link?

If you're keeping score at home, that’s on top of the $250 billion in this bill to restore a tax break for the wealthiest of the wealthy. I repeat: ONE OF THE LARGEST PROGRAMS IN THIS BILL IS A TAX BREAK FOR MILLIONAIRES.

Speaker Pelosi says this bill is “for the kids” and “for families”. Then why do families with two kids under 6 see a tax increase of $3,200 in 14 months under this bill while millionaires get a $27,000 tax cut? They also get more subsidies - PK 3 and 4, tax credit for kids, more cost effective health care - when you net it out, the wrking family comes out ahead

Ah, priorities priorities. Democrats say, “OUR BILL PUTS FAMILIES FIRST”. Ok…$20 million for plants, desert fish, and butterflies. Each. All ahead of families in this bill! Well, if we don't protect the environment, our plant will die, but we have already seen the GOP try to dismantle the EPA and gut our laws that promote clean air and water...I guess they prefer the Mad Max style dystopian future

I’m glad that someone within the White House is talking about the fact that the GOP is once again actively working for things to be as bad as possible.

+1
They just keep embarrassing themselves and they don’t even know they’re doing it.

This is absurd hyperbole. I've had one IRS audit in my life. It was full remote, by mail and phone. They found about $40 of income I didn't report (the third parties didn't give me the right forms) and it was over. We're both employees, and there was never any detailed inquiry into my bank statements. That is inappropriate for non-self employed people with no side hustles, and they didn't do it. The $40 of income wasn't enough to bother assessing any tax--they didn't change my refund amount even. The agent was intelligent and professional. The most annoying thing was printing and mailing a stack of documents.

If you actually pay your taxes, if you are a person subject to third party information reporting (like all employees are), you should really support funding the IRS. So many people are cheating.

Nothing in BBB is going to cut my costs at all. Once again sticking it to the UMC. No thanks.

Completely false. You clearly don't actually know what's in it. Just parroting right wing propaganda.

Do enlighten me. Or link me to an article that explains how this lowers my expenses. I've read many articles on bills, from reliable sources such as WaPo and NYT and other than potentially lifting the SALT cap (not definite either) I haven't seen a single thing that will help me.

So other than the thing that will help you, nothing will help you.

It’ll be cut before the final bill is voted on, if there is a vote at all.

Ah. Our friendly Republican doom and gloomer is here. I recall people saying that there would be no vote on infrastructure, either.

They got 13 GOP's to vote with them on infrastructure. Do you see that happening with BBB?
