Yes, why? Do you not expect to be paid when you provide labor? |
Ok, so 50K and 30K worth of health insurance is a good deal. My pension in the private sector is zero, and no 401K match either. You should be extremely proud of your situation. Congrats! |
NP. I worked hard to get my Fed job and I work hard in my Fed job. I have no idea why that causes you and your ilk to seethe so much. |
We don't get free health insurance just to let you know. We have the option to continue to pay for it. I am glad for that but just clarifying. Not sure why you are so bitter. |
Perhaps you should be looking for a new job? Lots of places provide match. Or maybe you salary makes up for that?? |
But why should it be $0? It was a part of the salary/benefits advertised to take our job. Feds do pay into it (increasingly for newer hires). Do you wish that other workplaces would offer $0 toward retirement benefits that were promised at the time of hiring? My DH is private sector and gets employee stock in addition to his 401k. Are you upset that he is given stock as part of his compensation or is that type of benefit ok because he works for a large company and only the private sector employees deserve anything nice? |
Not sure where you see bitterness in a genuine congrats message. I’ll drop and your group can continue to complain about how bad things are, w/o recognizing the positives. |
If you are unhappy with your compensation then find another job or even apply to be a fed! Presumably there was something about your job that made you take it (either the compensation was good enough to offset the lack of retirement benefits, or the flexibility made it worth lower compensation, or you do not have the qualifications for a better job). I hate to break it to you, but it’s not just Feds that get good benefits. My private sector DH gets generous 401k match, free short and long term disability coverage (he works for a foreign company that believes in covering this), stock, annual bonus, generous transit (metro/uber) benefits he can even use for some personal stuff, generous telework and flexible hours, etc. Are you mad about that too? Or is it just fed employees who should be expected to provide labor for low benefits? |
There are a lot of positives. The negative is the uncertainty about my future employment. Anyone would feel negative about that. |
You aren’t competitive employee if you have no 401k match. That’s capitalism. |
Right? This guy is a loser. He has no chance of being a Fed because he obviously has no qualifications. If he did have any qualifications, his pay and benefits and work conditions in the private sector wouldn't be so bad. No military experience either. It's pure, misdirected jealousy and envy. |
