Other feds just very depressed?

This is necessary. The government has become too bloated, and has the perception of doing less despite the increased personnel. By culling federal government bloat and agencies, we can restore these functions back to the states.

Yeah you'll get what you voted for, its the only thing that's gratifying here. Most of this crap will hurt his own supporters more than anyone else

We are not Feds yet in a similar situation. I plan to spend a lot less in the coming year. We know we're good through next May. After that, it's a wildcard. If we lose a job and don't have health insurance -- and if ACA is cut -- then a lot of our expenses will be health insurance.

Similar here. We've finally been able to ease up on spending a little after years of very strict budgeting and saving for a home and day care - not wild and crazy, but finally getting a babysitter to go out to dinner every couple months, going to non-free museums, going on budget summer vacations - so I know we can live on very little if we need to. But health insurance would be very expensive. Definitely thinking about more conservative spending until we figure out if my job is in danger, but not necessarily ready to 100% cut discretionary spending just yet. Maybe better to do things like get good preventative medical and dental care ASAP while we have it.

Elon fired 70% of twitter. That is not just a blowhard

NP and the thing is Elon won't have an official government cabinet position so he can say a group sucks and we should get rid of it but an equally egomaniacal cabinet head is going to have decision-making power and isn't going to let Elon run their show.

Are we so sure about that?

PP here and yes, I have seen tons of articles including statements from Trump and Musk himself that he wants an advisory role rather than a cabinet position.

RIFs could be a reality but there are RIF regulations that must be followed. Trying to operate outside those regulations would result in litigation that would tie things up for years. My guess is that some agencies will seek voluntary early retirement. As the RIF rules would in most cases impact new employees rather than ones with seniority.

Also, remember that the federal government has a big workforce outside of the DMV. This not just a DMV thing and the appetite may be much less than one thinks.

And Twitter still exists and works. Elon found that that number of people weren't necessary to run it.

Same with the Fed.

Yes there are some very vital and important jobs, but there are more that just plain aren't.

Name the unimportant jobs that add up to $2 trillion.

Oh, and Twitter doesn’t work half the time now, most famously evidenced by it crashing when he tried to host an interview with Trump. It’s also lost a ton of traffic and is documented to be overrun with bots and fake accounts. (P***y in Bio anyone?)

Elon has said he wants to cut an amount that exceeds the entire discretionary budget. He would need to eliminate every agency, including the military, to accomplish that.

All the gleeful "cullers" do you have any capacity for empathy? Suppose you, whatever you do, were deemed "cullable" would you feel anything?

It would be a start. And contractors hired to do useless work. And contractors hired to do the work some feds are too lazy/incompetent to do.

Of course it wouldn't all add up to $2T, but just because it doesn't, it shouldn't be done?

Do you dissolve into a puddle of tears every time a company lays off staff? This happens ALL the time in companies and corporations, across entire industries.

Remember covid when people lost their jobs, their businesses, their livelihoods?

Traffic is down and advertising is way down…it’s working fine because it’s used less. If all you do is send simple tweets and attach a video every now and then, you wouldn’t know much about its issues.

Every livestream they have tried to pull off has been riddled with technical problems.

All the investors have written down their investment by 80%+…the debt holders just want interest paid and hope they can get their principal.
