| I’m not a political partisan but my agency will likely face massive cuts. I’ve spent two decades in a specialized job and the skills can’t transfer easily elsewhere. Just so incredibly worried now. |
|
Yes, I'm worried. It's hard to figure out how to make a career pivot as a specialist in your 40s, but if all the feds in my field get laid off, the private job market will be gutted, overwhelmed, or both. My spouse only makes 65k in education, and we have kids, so we can't get by without my job long term. I have a project under review right now that could get me fired on its own (totally noncontroversial currently, but doesn't align with Project 2025).
Thinking about boosting the emergency fund over the next few months, what I'll do if they make us sign loyalty pledges, and all that stuff. Planning keeps me out of despair but I'm not really sure how to plan for all of this. |
|
Not depressed but disappointed and a little anxious to see exactly how things play out in 2025 for my agency.
Trying my best not to obsess, because there’s no point in that, and enjoy remote work for the next 2+ months. |
| Yep, early 50s, like my job and do great work. My job isn’t overly political either (it’s something that both administrations tend to support albeit in slightly different ways) but I think it’s 50/50 if they just fire us all or things get incredibly awful. Trying to figure out whether to try to get out now but that means giving up the health benefits in retirement and getting to MRA for the pension - but who the heck knows if we’ll get those pensions or the retirement health benefits anymore. |
| Questioning all my life choices, including (especially?) the one to live in DC. Yes. |
| I don’t think they’re going to do a lot, honestly. Elon musk is just a blowhard. If they had a real plan for huge cuts without chaos that would amount to political suicide, they would have done it. It’s the same as “repeal and replace.” |
No chaos when they replace Fed jobs with contractors. |
Elon fired 70% of twitter. That is not just a blowhard |
But that’s a private company and he can do what he wants. Aren’t there regulations that would keep him from doing that so easily in the govt? (I mean, that said, I think they will move forward as they wish and if the courts get tied up, that’s fine with them. They won’t wait for things to be finally decided and approved.) |
Who writes the regulations? |
|
Yes, and they want us to be worried.
We are not Feds yet in a similar situation. I plan to spend a lot less in the coming year. We know we're good through next May. After that, it's a wildcard. If we lose a job and don't have health insurance -- and if ACA is cut -- then a lot of our expenses will be health insurance. |
I was going to say the exact same…. |
That was like 5000 people running one website. |
| I'm a Democrat. For some reason I'm weirdly ok and somewhat elated. Maybe Im losing my mind. Maybe I was a Viking in another life and this feels like going to war. IDK. |
