Think of the amount of capital it would take to generate 100K pension (guaranteed by the US Treasury)
Most pensions are not 100K. I have been a GS-15 for many years, FERS, and my estimated pension is less than half of that.
Ok, so 50K and 30K worth of health insurance is a good deal. My pension in the private sector is zero, and no 401K match either. You should be extremely proud of your situation. Congrats!
If you are unhappy with your compensation then find another job or even apply to be a fed! Presumably there was something about your job that made you take it (either the compensation was good enough to offset the lack of retirement benefits, or the flexibility made it worth lower compensation, or you do not have the qualifications for a better job). I hate to break it to you, but it’s not just Feds that get good benefits. My private sector DH gets generous 401k match, free short and long term disability coverage (he works for a foreign company that believes in covering this), stock, annual bonus, generous transit (metro/uber) benefits he can even use for some personal stuff, generous telework and flexible hours, etc. Are you mad about that too? Or is it just fed employees who should be expected to provide labor for low benefits?
