Highly likely they’ll rekindle in a very private setting, public unaware as they were before for years.

“Told me I'm better off
But I'm not, I'm not, I'm not.”

She wants him back. “imgonnagetyouback.”
If he calls her, they will fall back into rekindled flames.
Question is, will he???

Gawd I hope not. This guy is a classic addict, talented yes, and in 10 years will be in rehab. Guys like this can’t hack the long game. Many of us have been there with guys like this and they are not keepers, no matter how much the heartbreak hurts.

You never know. A lot of young people experiment with drugs. Definitely lots and lots of musicians do. Some relapse; many do not.

I hope that drugs are behind Matty. He says in one of his band's songs released in 2022 that he has not touched drugs in 'a thousand four hundred days', so it has been over 5 years now.

I am a new fan of him and The 1975 and can definitely relate to Taylor obsessing about Matty. He is kind of awesome: https://www.tiktok.com/@mattysgalaxy/video/7375281842104175915

She just played “long story short” as her surprise song in Lyon, which is about him too and pretty sad 💔

Because these songs are so clearly about him, they’re not really “universal” like her other music and I just have no interest in listening to them (unlike her other albums, which I listened to on repeat). They’re about HER (and Matty) but I guess I’m not enough of a fan to find that interesting beyond a listen. Whereas I felt a personal connection to Folklore and Evermore. TTPS is too idiosyncratic, and not at all interesting. I don’t really care about her obsession with this guy, who clearly was not worthy; I’ve lived through my own relationships with guys like this in my 20s and it’s just…who cares.

I think that’s a fair take. I personally really like it but you’re right. Much of it is so targeted and specific. Like she made sure we knew. It’s intriguing from a what was the point/goal view point.

A number of songs on Folklore and Evermore were clearly about Matty too though and had specific references to him, esp for fans of The 1975 who know tidbits about him. For example, he has a tattoo on the inside of his lip (ouch!) that he talked about back in 2015, so the lyric “I knew you’d linger like a tattoo kiss” was an obvious nod to him. In Maroon, she mentions getting drunk on his roommate’s rosé and hooking up. Cowboy Like Me was an obvious reference as well. Matty famously gave a speech about being a cowboy when accepting the NME Innovation Award with his band in early 2020:

“Farmers like to cultivate their thing and keep it the same, and cowboys like to go out and find new pastures. There are so many wonderfully talented people in this room and I don’t have any advice because I’m really scared and I feel really small, but my only advice would be, be a cowboy.”

Once I, a fan of both TS & The 1975 and music in general, spotted those references, I couldn’t listen to the albums without noticing how many other songs on folklore & evermore were for him too.

WAS. Years ago. So were Robert Downey, Jr., Keith Richards, Steven Tyler, Nicole Richie etc. Doesn’t mean they are using now.
In fact, I can’t think of a famous rock band from the 70s or 80s whose members did not experiment with hard drugs.
