The decisions should be based on reason and logic. Crossfield should be at Skyview and Lee's Corner at Chantilly. One has no impact on the other.

All the decisions impact each other.

In the original maps (3/4), Crossfield moved to Skyview and Lees Corner stayed at Chantilly.

The original maps were so much cleaner. The entire reason we are all now in this mess is because of RIO having a tantrum. How long are they going to keep calling the Maps early draft? It is now May, and they are supposed to set the boundaries in June! This could’ve all been done months ago, but we have grown adults behaving like brats.

Sort that out later. They have a year to work on it.

The original maps didn't analyze the middle schools and elementary schools.

Now that FCPS has set the precedent that no one gets moved who complains to them, its going to be impossible to move anyone.

FCPS should admit they are in over their heads, cancel this redistricting crap, make Skyview a TJ West, and then apologize to everyone for the chaos and stress they have caused everyone. But instead, they will end up making dumb, rushed decisions without any consideration for students and their families. Uprooting long standing school communities to justify their idiocracy. It’s not too late for the school board and Reid to admit they botched this whole thing. The larger FCPS community should ensure these members NEVER get elected to any office again. They have proven their incompetence beyond a reasonable doubt.

1000%

This, and the Centreville people have the *exact same* argument as Lees Corner, only they are much further away from Westfield than Lees Corner. There would be no reason to exempt LC and not those Centreville neighborhoods. And then every other area will have the same argument: we are closer to our current school.

Bull Run isn’t as close to Centreville as Lees Corner is to Chantilly.

And then who sticks out? Crossfield/Navy to Oakton, who are nowhere close to their desired school.

But those neighborhoods are MUCH farther from Westfield than Lees Corner. Which fact is more dispositive?

I'm missing something here. Which shifts are you talking about?

I actually love this idea.

same here

Demand is real too. you could even get away with a super slow rollout of construction

My guess (and I don't know who RIO is and, while I live in the area, I am not in Franklin Farm), I think they have kids at Oakton and are vested in Oakton. They likely have younger kids, as well.
I understand that. I'm a Chantilly parent and we like Chantilly and would be happy to stay there, but it is not likely.

One of the big pluses of Chantilly is that you feel it is a community school. Their friends are within reach--even if they come from the other side of the boundary. It is a compact boundary and no one in boundary lives more than 10 minutes away--even in traffic.

This is what I don't understand about the Oakton moms. I live near them, I know a lot of them, and I don't for the life of me understand why they wouldn't want their kids in a community school that is less than 10 minutes from their homes and instead prefer the school that is 20 minutes away with a massive boundary. I mean, I do know, it's mostly because they are snobs, but it's insane.

because they have different priorities than you

obviously time isn't a priority for them. my kid is already :45 minutes on a bus to get to carson, and the oakton bus is shorter at least this year.

And, there are people on those buses whose time is reversed. I'm guessing your child is first stop on Carson bus and last stop on Oakton. Also, guessing that Oakton bus is not much shorter and for the first stop on, it is much, much longer.

I think it's more that they changed consultants who started from scratch. Maybe one of the Crossfield lobbyists is connected to the new consultant, I have no idea.

I will say that I think someone should investigate the Crossfield PTO presidents abusing their power though.

You already posted - we know this is because you have a middle schooler and a high schooler and you don't care about how families with younger children, it's all about me, me, me, and not "community".

DP but my neighbor drops her teen off to a different neighborhood every morning because our neighborhood is the first stop and a neighborhood across the main road is the last stop. She said a lot of people do that because otherwise it's a very long bus ride.

Are incoming freshman who have already selected classes, tried out for sports teams, signed up for band or whatever, now being shuffled to new high schools? What kind of timing is that?

Between Westfield and Skyview, Skyview is better.
