Western High School Boundary Map options (A/B/C/D)

No. The boundaries do not go in effect this year. Some kids are opting in to Skyview, but it is not required.

This is not a competition.

Does that apply to the kids being moved from Chantilly to Westfields, for example? This is a mess.

I actually love this idea.

Its solid. Not enough students live nearby to fill the seats. Put a magnet in. TJ West.

For the thousandth time, that was not the basis upon which this school was bought. And it would be contrary to the express instruction given by the School Board to Reid.

If there is ever to be a new magnet, it should be the result of a reasoned consideration, and not because Michelle Reid doesn’t know how to do a boundary study or some stuck-up Carson parent needs a consolation prize when their nerdy kid gets turned away from TJ.

1000%

This, and the Centreville people have the *exact same* argument as Lees Corner, only they are much further away from Westfield than Lees Corner. There would be no reason to exempt LC and not those Centreville neighborhoods. And then every other area will have the same argument: we are closer to our current school.

Bull Run isn’t as close to Centreville as Lees Corner is to Chantilly.

And then who sticks out? Crossfield/Navy to Oakton, who are nowhere close to their desired school.

But those neighborhoods are MUCH farther from Westfield than Lees Corner. Which fact is more dispositive?

I'm missing something here. Which shifts are you talking about?

Bull Run mom thinks because some streets in Bull Run’s boundaries are as far to Westfield as Lees Corner is, then Lees Corner should be moved. Despite the fact that Lees Corner is walkable/bikeable to Chantilly and Bull Run is not to Centreville.

Look at the map. The Bull Run boundary extend over twice the size of Lees Corner. Some neighborhoods are in fact closer to Westfield than to Centreville. But you are arguing that the entire Lees Corner school should be uprooted to protect a portion of your students who will have a slightly longer commute compared to their previous commute. (And some will have a shorter commute to Westfield.) 100% of Lees Corner students will have a much, much worse commute to Westfield compared to Chantilly.

It’s time to give up the argument.

I agree, but I think PP meant a magnet at Westfield --not Skyview.

And, we very much need a traditional school at Skyview because there is a need in the community.

Plus, Bull Run neighborhoods are close to the other neighborhoods attending Westfield. Lee's Corner is separated from the nearest Westfield residential neighborhood by miles.
Nevertheless, you don't take a neighborhood that is walking distance and put it on a 5 -6 mile bus ride.
This saves a lot of transportation money.

Indisputable fact: the Lees
corner area is shorter miles wise to Westfield than the Bull Run parts they want to move.

Absolutely no kids will have a shorter commute in miles from any of those areas proposed to move then they have now to Centreville.

Why not just be honest about actual
Facts? You already tantrummed to the SB and got your way. We can all use google maps and map the distances.

If LC got to stay bc they are closer to CHS then the same rationale should apply to every other neighborhood closer in distance to their current school then the proposed new school.

The more this Lees Corner parent posts, the more annoying s/he gets. Wow.

Which kids are within a mile of their current school and proposed being moved other than the proposal for Lee's Corner?

It's fine to lobby to stay where you are, but you cannot win with your argument.

Are we really supposed to pretend there’s much difference between Centreville and Westfield? The main reason they should move part of Centreville is Westfield to backfill Westfield is that they are so similar. If we’re being honest we all know there’s a bigger difference between Chantilly and Westfield.

Everyone complains about boundary changes when they think they are getting less attention than someone else, but you’re getting less attention precisely because no one seriously thinks it’s a big sacrifice to go to Westfield rather than Centreville or vice versa.

Sorry to say the quiet part out loud but I’m not wrong.

Indisputable facts:

1) 1/2 of BRES already goes to Westfield
2) The elementary schools and neighborhoods that are contiguous to Bull Run are Virginia Run, London Towne, Deer Park. These are all Westfield schools.

It clearly matters to the people who want to stay at Centreville!

But why should they be moved if they don't want to be? Only the rich, white areas get to choose their schools?

It’s been glaringly obvious ever since they said Skylight would be a neighborhood school that some at Centreville would need to move to Westfield.
