Spending 30k on a ring?

Anonymous
I am getting ready to propose to the most amazing woman I've met. She's it for me and I want to do it right. I want to give her the best I can. She very
" girl next door" - not very high maintenance. I found the perfect ring for her! It's a 3 carat, Asscher cut ring with a brilliant cut and colorless. The band is
" Classic" with tiny diamonds. It's roughly 30k. The price is not an issue, but I know she is very practical and a bit frugal. Ladies, would you appreciate/zany a ring like that? I, like most men, are a little clueless at this.

3ct is large and may not be comfortable. Make sure she'd be physically comfortable wearing a large ring, much less psychologically comfortable!

I'd love it.

(Granted, I'm more of a round-brilliant woman, but I can objectively appreciate a lovely Asscher.)

I would love it

Does she wear expensive clothing, jewelry, etc? What socio economic status is she? What's her profession?

When I was looking at rings many large ones looked gaudy and made me self conscious. I'm in big law and most of the women in my office have modest solitaires. Two have larger flashier rings; one tries to down play it.

I would focus more of how it sparkles versus getting some massive rock. Many will think a very large ring is fake and no woman wants to have to deal with that.

I wouldn't, but she might. I suppose it price were no object and it wouldn't take away from anything else it could be OK. But honestly I only sporadically wear my ~1 carat because I'm not much of a jewelry person / it gets in the way. And I purposefully picked out a very plain no-stone wedding band because that was my preference.

On a side note - how is your girlfriend with surprises? As my husband likes to say 'you like to be surprised with exactly what you want', and he's right. So personally I'd much prefer to have a say in the ring vs. getting surprised by it.

Three carats is huge IMO. Very mature matronly sized.

I think you said it. You found the perfect ring for her. I'm sure she will love it.

I would!

I am a practical minded, frugal woman. I would not have liked such an expensive ring. We got one for less than $100 which I love.

I also don't like cut flowers. They don't last very long and die quickly and are really expensive. Does she like cut flowers? If she does, she might like grand romantic gestures like the described ring.

+1 (except I love cut flowers)

Some women really, truly don't care about diamonds, rings, size, price, or any of those things. Some are even actually kind of repulsed by the idea of spending THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS on something so tiny.

I'd rather go on a few really great vacations, or put it towards a house. I completely don't understand engagement rings, let alone expensive engagement rings. But some people care very, very much about them.

This is something you should maybe privately bring up to those closest to her and ask for advice, as none of us know your girlfriend.

My WASPy mother would like it because she could show it off.
I would not.

Amazing!!! Go for it!

I wouldn't want a 3 ct ring that is $30k. I would like a 2 ct ring that is $30k

I'm a very practical girl, but I wear 6 carats on my ring finger. The ring you picked sounds absolutely stunning! Go for it. Congrats on finding the girl of your dreams.
