Spending 30k on a ring?

This diamond is high quality. I am having it designed. It's a great cut and colorless. The best of the best, I was told.

Her hands are normal size. Her ring size is 5. She's petite-framed and small in terms of height and weight.

I'm not gloating. I'm asking a serious question. This is a very amazing yet terrifying decision.

What do you want us to tell you? You describe your girlfriend as frugal. Those of us who identify as the same have not told you what you want to hear. We don't know her. Ask her friends/mother/sisters.

Can you afford a nice home? I wouldn't have wanted to sacrifice down payment money for my ring.

I would not like it, and would wonder about the sanity of anyone that spent $30K on a ring. FWIW, my husband makes close to a million dollars, and I still would wonder about his sanity if he spent $30K on a ring. A car, okay.
But you know your sweetheart best...one test might be -- how much does she spend on her purse? If she spends less than $100 on a purse, she probably is not going to be into a $30K ring. Just a guess.

You never buy an expensive ring until you're years into the marriage. Something nice but not $30,000. Have you lost your mind ? If this doesn't work out you'll be out the cost of a car. She WILL pawn that ring.

Don't do it!!

If my boyfriend bought me a 30k ring, we'd need to have a "come to Jesus" discussion about finances and spending wisely, if we are to get married.

I have my own money, and I can easily buy myself a 30k ring tomorrow. But it's insane to me to spend that amount of money on a little piece of jewelry. Totally crude priorities.

How did stumble upon DCUM, OP?

Omg don't listen to these women who drive subarus and live in Silver Spring. Does your girlfriend like nice (expensive) purses? The ring sounds amazing. In the center stone 3 ct? Or is the 3 ct with the diamonds on the band.
If she is very petite, you could maybe scale down to 2.5 ct center stone.
OP, do you drive a nice car? Does your GF? If not, would she if she could?

A high quality 3 ct ring costs way more than $30k. What does the report say and which kind does it have?

This is what I was thinking. Maybe a 2 ct is $30k.

Yes $30k is a lot, but a quality 3ct diamond plus band is way more than $30k.

Additionally, if this post is real, I don't understand the question.

If money is not an object as you have stated, I'd go with the cut she loves (Asscher), in 2.5-2.7 ct. 3ct won't look pretty on such a petite finger in my opinion.

Her hands are too small for a 3ct. Go with a high quality 2ct.

OP here. I was born and raised in DC. Moved to Chi-Town for college and have never left.

Yes, there are many rings that are better and carat. What I meant is it's the best 3 carat for the 30k price range.

I'm big asking to brag. I really want to know. I'm thinking I should scale back to 2-2.50 carat. They are roughly 20-25k.

We have a nice house and a nice car. We take public transportation or usually walk everywhere.

No one has mentioned that Asschers are cut very deeply to get the step cut effect, which means they face up much smaller than an equivalent round carat weight. It probably won't look overly enormous on her finger

Get the nicest quality 2.5 carat you can afford.

But how did you find DCUM? More specifically, what prompts a single, straight guy with enough money to buy a $30K ring to post on a parenting forum based in DC?
