Read this thread from beginning to end. Admin and teachers are completely out of sync. I do think teachers are being unreasonable and short sighted. They went on a strike and refused to teach in person. Most of us would lose our jobs if we pulled that! But they got safety in numbers and admin had no choice but to go remote. Parents are fuming. I would never honestly reconsider this school. Even K-1 are doing DL right now.

I think other schools will pivot to in person or stay in person all year. I don’t see Burgundy getting it’s act together. Kids will be stuck home in subpar DL all year. Sorry folks.

Teachers are going to strike themselves right out of a job at this point. Enrollment numbers will drop significantly next year

ACDS has all students on campus part-time. K-2 are there 4 days a week. 3-8 are on campus two days a week.

Also considering Burgandy for first grade. We put our K daughter at a local preschool. We are applying to private for next year because I assume public will be at best hybrid next year. I’d love to send to burgundy but there’s no way that’s happening unless they open this year. These teachers are not going to have a job.

I don’t know if these systemic issues come from the board or leadership, or a combination of it all. School leadership definitely picks “favorite” families when choosing board members. The whole thing gives off a feeling of an exclusive clique or club you weren’t invited to join. Different from any other school community we have been a part of, but the culture is hard to describe.

This is disheartening. Burgundy had been at the top of our list for our nature loving kid who thrives in smaller social settings. We’re not sure what schools we should be looking at for next year now. I never really envisioned us as a SSSA/ACD/Flint Hill fit, but I guess that is our option if we don’t end up in public. We live in FFX, so DC privates aren't really a feasible option.

I wouldn't change your plans to look at Burgundy based on one or two anonymous posters on DCUM. Do your due diligence. Try to find people who have experience with the school who are willing to have a conversation with you. We were having an amazing experience at Burgundy pre-pandemic. DL in the spring was frustrating for us, and we were floored when they chose not to open in September. But our fall DL experience has been impressive so far. Our kids got to go on campus for orientation and meet their teachers in person (in small groups). They sent us home with a ton of materials that are really helping with DL. For September we will be going on campus one morning per week. I'm really hoping we are back on campus in October for at least half days.

Speaking pre-pandemic, the school has not been perfect, but I wouldn't expect perfection. You really cannot beat it for the younger grades (we don't yet have experience with the older grades).

Why would you think I was a prospective parent? I never said that? I’m currently a parent.

Agree with pp you can’t beat it for the lower grades at least provided they are on campus.
