FCV parents - has anyone heard anything?

Arlington is a very strong club indeed. But can we stop with a single game result meaning so much? Only people that have never played competitive sports think that a single result is indicative of anything.

I agree one game doesn't mean much but to say Arlington isn't an elite club is preposterous.

You must be new. This is pretty typical FCV behavior. Most of us don't let it bother us. Club-wide communications with bad news is not a strength. Lots of other positives.

We are new. And the lack of information from the club is appalling. We obviously heard the rumors about the fate of DA recently and expected the club to say something, but to say that there are "other strengths" is funny. We moved to FCV for the DA training and the coaches. Now we are being told that the coaches who are currently on the roster may not be the ones next season. And now there's no DA. So as a new family I would like to know what the club plans!

Have you reached out to the technical director or anyone else at the club? Your questions and points are very valid and the answers will be important to your decisions moving forward.

A few times, and never got a response. We were told that our coach would tell us over a month ago if he was still going to coach our team. There was never any follow-up or confirmation. We also wanted to know why FCV left the NPL and chose NCSL? Again, no response. We were told that we would be playing in EDP. Then again nothing ever came of it. So now we have no idea who our coach is, what league our team will play in, and if there will be any "elite" league to feed into at FCV.

As a fellow B player parent, here's what we were told- FCV did not choose to leave NPL, we were asked to leave. United teams were to play EDP starting in the fall, with Elite teams playing NCSL, but with the DA implosion, don't know if that will stick. If your B team coach is on the ex-DA staff also, I'm sure they are trying to figure out their own future as well. Try reaching out there. Unfortunately that's all I know also and we are in the same boat as you. If anyone else knows anything of value to share, please do!

PP here.

So you were told that FCV was asked to leave?? We were told that FCV wanted out since the level of competition wasn't strong enough. And that our stronger teams would play EDP and play up an age level in NCSL. I will try and contact the coaching staff again and hopefully have answers...

And based on that NPL told FCV to leave. This isn’t hard to understand. FCV was playing teams up a age group, and playing B/C teams at age.

Remember ECNL is built on NPL.

Arlington is a good example of why you need to be affiliated with an “elite” league. They have a great talent pool, but their better older players left years ago for McLean or BRYC. When they got DA, they were able to keep their players (just look at the results for the oldest 2 age groups).

I would think that ECNL made the same assumption about Loudoun when they admitted them.

That's odd, because FCV's best age group was in 4th place, and the other groups 5th or lower in the standings. It doesn't appear that they were dominating.

Play ups in NPL were only happening at the younger age groups like U11, U12, U13. Yes, was told we were not welcome as a club any longer. Sounds like different teams were told different stories, not a surprise. Reason NPL is no longer an option doesn't matter now, would prefer to know what the plan is moving forward. More important.

Anyone know wants coach Gus Donolo plans to do next year? I guess it will depend on if FCV stays solvent as a club or not..

Rumor has it that your answer is coming early next week (but it's *not* spelled E-C-N-L).

Same paradigm at Loudoun. Older teams lost their best players in years past to FCV or McLean. Only the current 07 and rising 08s have had a full, in-place path for higher level soccer at Loudoun and I think they are doing worlds better than the older teams.
