Huh? I think the plan described is getting an investigative media group interested in the story. There are lots to try: Center for Investigative Reporting ProPublica Institute for Nonprofit News Investigative Reporters and Editors Center for Public Integrity Frontline Mother Jones The Intercept Real Clear Investigations The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) I'm sure one of them would love to take on this story. It has so much. |
Maret doesn’t have a permit for the space; it has a lease. Go to DPR’s website and see if you can find the information and form where you apply for the kind of ‘permit’ Maret has. |
Right. It has a “lease” permitting it to use the field. |
Thanks for pointing that out PP. it prompted me to go to the DPR permits page and it clearly states that use for DPR purposes is higher priority than any written agreement with a “partner“. So why then, does Maret trump the DPR aftercare program? Why are 100+ aftercare students from local public schools prioritized lower than Maret? https://dpr.dc.gov/page/priority-use Maret boosters need to shut their traps and wait this thing out. That’s their only chance is this going way. So by that I mean “please, keep talking and twisting yourselves into pretzels to try and justify this slimy deal that reflects so poorly on your school” |
Maret already uses all of UDC facilities too. That's why the Murch (and now Eaton) kids couldn't play there when they were in swing space. |
Geeze. Does Maret think it’s some sort of sporting powerhouse? |
Let’s get past the complaining and use our political power. Call and email the mayor and your council person. Tell them what you think. I would ask for an explanation, an accounting of all Maret contact with DPR, the Mayor, and the council, and a reversal. |
They haven’t because the time went to Maret. Do you think they weren’t ready to apply when the space became available? But it didn’t. I don’t blame Maret. They are doing exactly what I would expect them to do - looking out for their own. They are running a business. It’s DPR and the mayor I blame. |
The daily time - like 5:30. |
Wow, really?! They seem to be spending a lot of money on leasing public lands...don't they have enough dough to buy themselves a big ole plot of land for sports? Maybe they need to increase tuition some more. |
Yes! This will change when enough people -- or people with enough political power -- care as much as Maret does. Call and email! |

Sorry, I don't care enough. And neither does the mayor. Pound sand, over-educated, privileged (but not rich enough!), bastards!! |
I can't believe how Maret boosters push an edited version of the facts. Yes, Maret paid money 10 years ago for use of the field. That deal never should have happened but it did. Now, lots of folks object to a new deal which will have Maret paying a much smaller sum of money for use of the filed which can be maintained by DC taxpayers so more DC residents can use the field during prime hours. So, DC residents are questioning the motives behind both the original deal and this new deal. Rightly so, given Jack Evans was involved. He has proven himself to be completely self-serving |
Oh gawd. The “pound sand” DCUM poster. You are everywhere. Please, pick a new cliche. |
