UVA student missing

What does "check Wertland and 14th!" mean? I don't understand what it is you're suggesting (that hasn't been done).

I agree about the Wertland and 15th St incidents being possibly related. That area is dark, and there are a lot of hiding spots and alcoves to navigate around. I think she was leaving the party at Camden Plaza, got spooked by something and went off in the other direction. McGrady's wouldn't let her in and she didn't have her wits about her and she kept going. No student would think it's ok to go past the Shady Grady, no matter how lost or drunk - something made her go that way. The businesses along her path were either closed or all bars that she couldn't get in along her path (I think there might be a convenience store but not sure). I think she didn't have money on her and by the time she reached the downtown mall, her drinks from earlier kicked in and she got tired and let her guard down. I wish she had a moment of clarity in the bar to get a cab ride home or call 911. My guess is that she didn't want to get in trouble. Drunk teens seem to think they're fine and don't realize when they're in bad shape.

I have no idea what to think about JM - too many inconsistencies to make me think he's guilty or innocent. I'm not sure what to make of the police response either.

They themselves told the community about the two assaults. That's how I heard about them. Did they make the connection? I don't know, but it would be GREAT for them to explain to the public why they are not taking her last text seriously and focusing 100 percent on JM.

Someone needs to be asking them these questions- if the press won't do it, concerned citizens should step up! I don't have a lot of confidence in this police dept.

Map it out...and remember, she said that she was lost at Wertland and 14th!

Remember, these are the same police who initially thought Hannah was walking alone in that surveillance video and they practically admitted later that it was the public that helped them realize that that was not her shadow, it was JM!

+1 and Shady Grady and 15th street is where they found Morgan Harrington's Pantera t-shirt (with her DNA) after she went missing!

Sadly, we may never know what made her head downtown- wasn't the party she was at close to her apt? If she was intending to head to another party, someone should know that. To me it's just so odd that no one has any idea why she was down there in the first place. I get that she was lost at some point, but given how far apart the locations are it seems there must have been intentions to go somewhere other than her apt, at least initially. Did she have a smart phone with a mapping app?

Thank you! But again, I'm not the one who needs convincing. The public have helped crack cases before and have even helped with this case already.

Which video was the shadow video?

I'm not saying these police are the most competent but I think it's naive to think that we know their motives and share their knowledge base. Info released to the public isn't usually 100% whole or accurate. And there are good reasons for that.

Having lived at 15th and Gordon, and a few other apartments in the area, I would strongly suggest that the University and/or police department put in emergency phones and surveillance cameras in that area. Perhaps it would scare off whomever has been stalking that area.

Anonymous wrote:My gut (which I know is anecdotal and doesn't mean anything) is that JM isn't responsible for Hannah's disappearance. I think the police are under public pressure to have to have some direction, particularly given the history of missing girls in the area. JM was no gentleman for buying a drunk girl drinks, but I think people may be getting tunnel vision focusing on this guy, and miss other clues.

JM was apparently a volunteer coach at a private school. It worries me that a 32 yr old kids' coach would take an 18 yr old girl to a bar and (possibly?) buy her drinks. I'm wondering if she went with him because he approached her like a concerned coach offering assistance to a scared, lost kid....Maybe she was in a panic because she was lost, knew her cell phone was getting ready to die. I can see someone who works with kids approaching Hannah and offering his help. But taking her to a bar? Why would he do that?

And his high speed driving away from police is worrisome, too. Everything I read about this case makes me more worried for Hannah. I hope they find her and she comes home soon.

This may be a dumb question, but do we know the dreads guy bought HG alcohol at the bar? Could he have bought her water or a soda?

I'm sure they checked receipts and possible the bartender remembered them.

My question exactly. Why would he buy an already drunk girl more drinks, if he wasn't expecting to take advantage, of her?
