Do you like Taylor Swift?

There is no way in hell you can just re-record old songs and make money off them when someone else owns the rights.

Fake theater to scam people.

Completely incorrect AND ignorant of the music industry/ownership.

I know. People have no clue how terrible the industry is is for artists and how BIG this is. Even Paul McCartney doesn't own his music and neither did Prince (remember the name change?)

There's two kinds of rights. In the written song and the master recording. Since she wrote them, she had the right to re-record them.

A lot of artists write their own songs. Most rappers. Yet they get screwed out of their masters. I’ve never heard of any one else this Swift scam.

Because it’s fake.

Please cite one example of someone else being allowed to usurp the loss of their masters by re-recording songs they wrote.

He’s pushing his beer yesterday on his podcast while wearing a hoodie. Nobody goes from smart British pretty boys to this dumb slob.

His Wonderlic score was a 22--that converts to about a 104 IQ--so perfectly average. I'm guessing that at this point in her life she'd trade 15 IQ points for the joys of a partner with low neuroticism.

He flunked high school and college courses. He has CTE and anger issues. He speaks at an elementary school level. Listen to five minutes of their podcast and it’s clear his doofus older brother has a much stronger vocabulary and higher IQ.

Ok but what are your thoughts on Matty Healy

I think TS and MH are artistic twins and soulmates and have chased after each other for a decade+. There are so so many clues in their lyrics over the years.

Matty is an acquired taste. He is absolutely magnetic in a can’t-take-my-eyes-off-of-him way during live performances. I have been to two concerts of The 1975, and women of all ages hyperventilate like you wouldn’t believe it for this man. Halsey lost her mind over him, as did Taylor. He is intelligent, quick-witted and has a very high music IQ, which a fellow artist Taylor must have found extremely attractive.

Lastly, contrary to what her US fans believe, the actual Matty is sensitive, gentle and extremely progressive. I am convinced her deciding to become more politically vocal a few years ago was in part inspired by Matty, who she has been trying to impress since their mid 20s.

I don't get Matty Healy, but I'm still holding a candle for them. So many good songs of hers are about him that I can't help it.

Same!

He has his vices but I do think artistically, emotionally, intelligence wise, his quick witted style suits her to a T.

Ok, correcting myself before someone else does. Some artists do have contractual prohibition from re-recording masters for a certain period of time. This article gives a few examples at the end of artists who have done this. https://www.insidehook.com/music/other-artists-rerecording-their-music

Interesting that her letter stated she tried and couldn't get into finishing Reputation. And she completely re-recorded Debut! I wonder if and when she will release it...
Good for her! I bet it wasn't cheap.

Was the whole thing a hoax scam? Why doesn’t everyone just re-record their songs to make the original devalued? The whole thing always felt fake and certainly feels faker than ever with her getting everything in the end.

I think a lot of it was to set people up for her Eras tour which is where the real money was made. I don't care though, she released a lot of amazing new material with each re-recorded album from that era. It was also all available for free. Now if she did something like make you buy her full re-recorded albums to hear the new stuff then I might be a little annoyed.

How and where was it all available for free? I never heard that.

I listened to all of her music for free on YouTube.

DP but I just hate billionaires who are taking over with a mediocre product. Taylor happens to be one of them.

Her fans were kind of fleeced over this whole thing. She and her Dad are the very business upper class people they are wanting you to hate. They bill themselves as little fish taking over the music industry, but is a financial bro taking over the music industry really something to get excited about? He just knew to use his daughter as a front woman.

They did not have the mega money to record.

Do you know how much work, effort, capital it is to hire the musicians, the recording space that has the best equipment, to get them all together - editing, producing? Weeks of work, long hours, trying to get new, good cuts. And in this case, trying to sound almost exactly like the old ones (extremely difficult) but also increase the production value.

She paid for it herself this time. These other artists you mention first of all, didn’t have the money to do it, would have spent all their earned money. And, would have had little support in doing something no one has done. She had the support, the money to buy support.

The only reason she was able to buy back her masters is because she greatly devalued them by re-recording Taylor’s version which her fans overwhelmingly chose to download and stream making the masters a lot less valuable - and clearly she made a crap ton of money with the most profitable and biggest global tour ever.

It’s not a scam and no one is holding a gun to people’s head, forcing them to buy albums.

Def Leppard tried re-recording, but how many stars are big enough to make it effective. In truth, Swift had little support from people in the industry. They thought she was insane, but she proved them wrong.

Interesting how her shills show up to bury the fact this was a scam on her fans. Cult leader cooked up a shameless scam to get you saps to re buy her songs and albums you already all owned and feel like you were supporting her.
