I think it was all fake and I think Scooter was in on it. A ruse to get her gullible fans to re-buy all of her old albums. There is no way in hell you can just re-record old songs and make money off them when someone else owns the rights. Fake theater to scam people.
There's two kinds of rights. In the written song and the master recording. Since she wrote them, she had the right to re-record them.
A lot of artists write their own songs. Most rappers. Yet they get screwed out of their masters. I’ve never heard of any one else this Swift scam. Because it’s fake. Please cite one example of someone else being allowed to usurp the loss of their masters by re-recording songs they wrote.
They did not have the mega money to record. Do you know how much work, effort, capital it is to hire the musicians, the recording space that has the best equipment, to get them all together - editing, producing? Weeks of work, long hours, trying to get new, good cuts. And in this case, trying to sound almost exactly like the old ones (extremely difficult) but also increase the production value. She paid for it herself this time. These other artists you mention first of all, didn’t have the money to do it, would have spent all their earned money. And, would have had little support in doing something no one has done. She had the support, the money to buy support.
Def Leppard tried re-recording, but how many stars are big enough to make it effective. In truth, Swift had little support from people in the industry. They thought she was insane, but she proved them wrong.
