I can confirm you’ve been reading too much Reddit. Step away from the internet.

You should stop drinking now so you're not too hung over tomorrow when you need to teach.

I read this exact story on MoCo Reddit. Woman and her aunt are subs that work at different schools… puhlease.

Why is everyone on here so bitter?

We can only take so much abuse from MCPS. And it's getting worse.

Valid reason thanks for being concise

Good question. If you look at the other county school boards they are no where as active or angry as this one. Personally, I feel like I was duped into an idea of a great school system but our actual experience has been miserable. Kids aren't educated or prepared. School staff treats parents who are involved like they are karens but if you're not involved and there's a problem then the root of the problem is that youre not involved enough. School personnel seems angry burned out and disgruntled. There is a culture of negativity.. Key staff don't understand the limits of their job/expertise. Money is wasted but school keeps asking for more and higher taxes which is laughable since they don't correct their own spelling or students spelling nevermind teach anything else. It's the Temu of education. So tired of the politics instead of academics. Very disappointing. Hard to think of what's good about it.

I'm sorry, but are you really insisting that we should not open schools because staff members might encounter snow on their way from the parking lot? Or that buses can't pick up kids waiting near a stop that has some snow accumulation? What planet do you live on? Do you and your kids occupy a bubble where precipitation never occurs?

Right. We shouldn't open schools if it's below freezing, because that's too cold and there could be ice. We shouldn't open schools schools when is above 80F, because the air conditioners don't all work in the schools and walkers might get heat exhaustion going home. We also shouldn't open schools if it is raining, because that can make surfaces slippery and we don't want people to fall. And we shouldn't open school when there's a full moon, because werewolves.

Sadly the bus don't come if you live within a mile of the school so you're making kids either fall on ice or wander out into the street to find a place to get through.

Another one:

We shouldn't open schools until there are tunnels at every interaction with 1 mile of a school, otherwise some kids may have to cross a street.

Any other conditions for opening schools?

This reminds me of the storm in 1996 when I had off all week of school. Snow then extreme cold.

To announce they're opening on-time?

+1 on-time

We’ll be lucky if it is just a delay. I think they won’t open at all.

Agree. Likely closed for one more day.

Highly unlikely. Taylor got a lot of flack today for closing. With the county being done with the roads they're responsible for, it would be hard to justify another closure.

Who is he getting flack from?

You're kidding.

No one blamed him for Monday or Tuesday, but MCPS building services were out working on Monday and Tuesday to open schools. And he didn't. Not even on a delay. Not even child care programs. He absolutely got flack.

And now he's going to need to add a make-up day, something he probably never experienced in his old job. I'm sure people have been telling him what a mess that is going to be.

ES parents I know are upset about it being code red. Fine if schools have to close for students/teachers, but they should be open for the aftercare providers to be able to offer services. There is really no justification for them being closed today, other than wanting to give administrators time off.

There is a reason….no safe place to park if the lots aren’t cleared yet. Can’t clear the lots if they have cars on them.

Let the schools with cleared lots open then. The other schools will only make that mistake once.

For the millionth time, it does not work that way.

And never will. All or nothing.

So disappointing that our kids will be back to learning

It will after they do it once, because no school will drop the ball like that again.

No, it won’t, because:

It
Is
Never
Going
To
Happen.

Ever.
