It's my first time cooking a whole fish, and I was very excited. I baked it for the correct length of time, served it to the kids, and lo and behold after 5 minutes of eating, DD peers at her fish and asks: "what's that moving around on my fish?" Turns out it's a tiny little white wormy thing wiggling about, and there were others like it on her piece of fish.
Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Apparently according to the internet, we could all be infected with tapeworm, or some nasty parasite. Dead worms wouldn't have mattered, I had to cook it for a longer period (the rest of the fish is in the oven cooking away, it's going to be inedible). What would you do? |
I would take it out of the oven. Keep the wormy fish and call the dr. tomorrow. They should be able to identify the worm and lest you know if you need medication. |
Wow! I know fish have worms in them but there is no way I would be able to eat that same piece of fish. It would be in the trash and we'd be having pizza.
About worms, most probably nothing wi happen. So would just keep an eye on everyone's health but nothing other than that. |

Yikes! Where did you buy it? |
OP here. I am besides myself with disgust, and with the fact that I gave my children this worm-infested fish. This was fresh, whole salmon from the Bethesda Whole Foods, bought yesterday. I suppose I have to call and tell them. |
Wait why are you cooking the rest....to eat? |
Was it wild salmon or farmed |
Maybe to incinerate the worms? |
OP here. I read online that cooked worms present no health risk, and apparently there are worms in fish frequently - some of those little white curling filaments you see are worms. The danger is when they are still alive when you eat them. But honestly, after putting the fish back in the oven, I can't bring myself to eat it, or any fish, for a very long time. DH just came home, and said he would serve himself a piece and try it. He's welcome to all of it! |
OP here. It was wild, I never buy farmed. |
Bahhhhh ok now I cannot eat Salmon for a long time! We too get ours from WF but in R? |
Yikes! Isn't salmon the Friday special tomorrow? |
vomit. that's it. sorry I can't be of more help. Frankly, I'm trying not to vomit my dinner now, which was not salmon. I have no one to blame either, you clearly listed the title. |
