Al fish has worms guys. All of it. If you get a filet I guarantee that the store rinsed the worms away with the skin etc. I got a cod filet from Giant and was about to cook it when I saw little dancing worm pop up. I wrapped it up in about 12 ziplocks and took it back to the store. The fish guy laughed at me. And said - all fish has worms. We just rinse them away. This one must have gotten by. Would you like a different filet? This is why sushi is a health risk. I love it but ... |
All fish have worms but good fish mongers take them out (candling). Whole Foods has quality issues, always. |
Evidence? |
You actually cooked this fish and the worms survived being baked alive?
First, it's disgusting that there were worms in the fish -so gross. Second, you are not cooking your fish nearly long enough. |
+1. By definition, it is a horrible idea to buy fresh food on sale. |
Personal experience and experiences of coworkers. We've all gotten spoiled dairy, rotten chicken, bad fish. |
They cut them out. Sushi fish in the U.S. is frozen at a certain temp(think it like -20)and duration. It kills the parasites in the fish.
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/04/08/nyregion/sushi-fresh-from-the-deep-the-deep-freeze.html Op you must have gotten "fresh" fish. Cooking the fish will kill the parasites and you can eat them with little chance of problems(some people do have bad reaction to the proteins in the worms, but it rare). Swordfish, halibut and cod have a lot and I mean a lot of parasite in them. They cut the worms out by holding it to a light. Any ways, the worm should not be alive when you eat it. Next time get the frozen fish, it fresher and the parasites are dead. A wild "fresh" fish is a few days old when it reaches market and by the time they ship it to you it 4-8 days old. The freshest fish are the ones that are properly frozen when caught and kept frozen till used. |
No, it's not. It's irradiated. |
I can't believe you are even contemplating eating it?! |
I found a caterpillar in my fresh corn ears and a beetle in my fresh brussels sprouts. That's why I wash everything, even prewashed produce. Worms in fish is a new one but I'llbe sure to rinse my fish filets from now on. |
Rinsing wont do Jack. The worms are inside the flesh. |
a caterpillar in the top of corn is not the same as worms inside a salmon. |
One of my FB friend has the same salmon problem, but she bought it at Costco. She got a refund and even show the video of the worm on the salmon to Costco customer service. Not sure what Costco will do. |
Sushi in this country, is always made with fish that has been frozen. It may have worms, but they'll be dead ones. |
Not according to health department rules. |
