Ugh - live worms in my whole salmon!

The good news is that if you are eating sushi you already have the chopsticks handy...

You win DCUM this weekend.

Please explain?!

If you have chopsticks handy, you can pick the worm out with them.

You are being coy! Is it reference to the other thread of buying good chopsticks or something else?

Don't be. This is highly unusual.

Only because you dont know what is in the meat....or vegetables...or ground up in your processed food.

A frirnd of mine worked at a slaughterhouse where a colleague lost three fingers in an accident. They ended up mixed in with 500 pounds of meet. The inspectors decided it was within the tolerances and allowed it through, ground fingers and all.

Annnnnndddd, I'm out.

Me too!! I keep reading this thread and getting more and more grossed out. I've recently switched to a whole food plant diet and so glad I have. I at least can wash off my fruits and veggies and not have to worry about body parts, insects and worms being inside and ground up to where I can't see them. UGH! So disgusted!

I skipped my safeway sushi lunch because of this thread

So if you get farmed fish it will less diseases and no parasites? I thought it was the opposite. WHY don't people tell you this. The same w/ organic they should show how filthy the free range and full of parasites etc... Why can't they have free range w/ antiboitics.

OP here with a TMI update.

I took the fish back to the Bethesda WF and said they needed to check the rest of their batch. They made the appropriate apologetic noises, disgusted faces and commiserations.

So far 2 out of 3 people who've eaten the fish have had mild stomach aches and diarrhea (sorry for the TMI). Let's hope there's nothing worse in store!

No! Farmed fish has more parasites and disease on average, which doesn't mean that wild fish won't occasionally have some as well. The recommendation is to buy frozen wild fish (wild fish caught and frozen on board ship), since this ensures you're not eating antibiotics and all potential parasites are killed.

Not the pp, but it is reference to the post on worms in the health forum. You do not want to read it. I repeat, do not read.

You are going to read it, aren't you?

That's just great. I don't know what to eat anymore!

Gross!

Oh my god! I eat salmon a lot, both farm raised and wild, and do not check if it has been frozen.

Somehow I am not only alive, but my bad cholesterol has gone down.

I had better stop eating fish, and switch to beef and cheese, pronto. And make sure it is all very high in antibiotics - no more Chipotle for me!

I may get a heart attack, and help spread antibiotic resistant illness, but at least I will not be grossed out by worms.

So much I learn on DCUM.

This DCUM. There is nothing to eat, no place to live, and no way to raise your kids.

Just worry.

I'm willing to bet I've eaten a LOT more bugs and worms from my produce than from my meat. It's part of life.
