Likely being unaware of how close Franklin and Carson are, they then pulled kids to the middle school or out of the middle school--disrupting elementary attendance. So, then they moved to elementary and made them fit. And, ended up with a huge mixed up mess.
Either that, or they just threw spagetti at the wall.

Just look at what they did with the Franklin Farm section of Oak Hill. It makes NO sense at all. I'm not familiar with all the other areas, but I am familiar with that area and the Lee's Corner mess.

I also recall the Fox Mill Woods mess from the 2008 boundary review.
It is not a huge area. At that time, because of the bitterness in the neighborhood, I recall a request that they allow generous pupil placement to Oakton from that area. I think it came to a vote on the School Board. I thought it was a reasonable request as that there were valid reasons to allow it. It was handily rejected.

I would think that Oak Hill should be assigned to Carson. But, for those walkers across the street from Franklin, I would allow generous pupil placement. I doubt it would be much utilized.

This is NOT the same as sending Lee's Corner to Westfield. Carson and Franklin are less than two miles from each other and most of Oak Hill is smack in the middle. Chantilly and Westfield are not particularly close. Why would you take kids and send them to a school that is further away?

If you are the lees corner parent, you seem OK with kids being sent twice as far from Centreville to Westfield, as long as they aren't your kids moving. Or do you agree that shouldn't happen either?

Lees Corner is five times further from Westfield than Chantilly. You don't see the difference? Which kids across the street from Centreville are being moved? Which walkers are being moved?

Why is that relevant (if true?)? The distance for those Chantilly kids to go to Westfield is still shorter than the distance for those kids in Centreville to Westfield.

But some of those Bull Run kids are about the same distance from Westfield as Centreville. But, you know that.

No, I don't know that. Specifically which neighborhoods currently zoned for Bull Run/CVHS are the same distance in miles or shorter to Westfield as they are to Centreville HS?

All those BRES neighborhoods are closer in miles to Centreville. Don't send that poor aggravated parent off on a google maps goose chase.
But it doesn't matter. The Lees Corner people will get their way b/c they are more well connected and wealthier than the Centreville neighborhoods.

This would have worked if they moved some kids out of Oakton, Chantilly and Westfield to fill Skyview but not so many that the schools needed to be backfilled. IDK why they just didn't do that.

They didn’t do that because certain Oakton people freaked out and demanded not to be touched at all. My home is zoned for Oakton and I am so uncomfortable with the way this is all going down. I have not been part of the effort to keep us at Oakton and I don’t think we should be kept there at the expense of so many other communities.

LOL. I heard that. A clueless parent who literally said “distance doesn’t matter so much as keeping them with friends.” For a first grader!!!

Are you on the spectrum? By first grade my kid had deep friendships with classmates.

I feel sorry for your kids that they have a parent that thinks distance is the only factor to consider in schools.

You and PP are learning, shockingly apparently in real-time, that it is not just about rankings and distance, most of us care about our community above all else. Community is what makes a school desirable.

You nasty person. First of all, being autistic is not an insult you nasty person. Second of all, kids don't have "deep friendships" in first grade. Their friends change every few months. It's very easy for a first grader to move and have a new best friend the first week of school. You sound stupid <-- valid insult.

This must have really gotten to you because you keeping repeating across your multiple posts that it was an insult when I was just stating a fact. Seems like you get easily worked up over things.

Anyway, lay off other people’s kids and I won’t feel the need to respond. But until then, I stand by everything that I said. And your multiple posts won’t change that.

I’m the one you asked about being on the spectrum. I have not made multiple posts responding to your nonsense. Ask Jeff. In fact I should just get your post removed because it makes you look awful and insults families with autism. No one can take you seriously.

As opposed to you advocating to screw over other people’s kids and communities? You should just stay in your lane. Advocate for your kids to move if you want, but advocating to selfishly move other people’s kids is just GROSS and is an insult to all those families.

Maybe you have confused me with another poster. I haven’t advocated for anyone’s kids to move.

McDaniel just sent this out:

Dear friends,

Thank you for reaching out to my office about your concerns about recently proposed boundary changes. I wanted to make sure you receive the following joint statement to the Lees Corner Elementary School community from Sully District School Board Member Seema Dixit, and myself:

“Thank you to the parents and community members who have reached out to us regarding a draft boundary scenario that would move Lees Corner Elementary School from Chantilly High School to Westfield High School. This move is indicated in one of the three draft scenarios generated for the new Skyview High School boundaries. Based on the feedback from the Lees Corner community, it is our expectation that Lees Corner remains within the Chantilly High School pyramid."

The school was bought for Coates and Chantilly. It can be a smaller high school so less people got moved.

It was the Floris and Oak Hill areas that lobbied the longest and hardest for a high to serve those areas. Coates didn’t even exist when those efforts commenced.

+1. I remember when they gave the site away. Thrilled when FCPS purchased it. Disgusted with boundary delays and turmoil. I'm confident it will be a good school if a little common sense is applied.

It is more frustrating to see people advocate to move to Skyview. Most of us stay create the most balance.
