But if Navy gets zoned out of Oakton, then Crossfield should as well. It would make no sense to leave Crossfield there.

Crossfield mounted a huge defense and a website. They’re not only successfully petitioned to stay at Oakton, but also now have successfully been given permission to come to Franklin MS, even though Carson is closer to them. They now don’t want Carson because Carson will feed to Skyview.

How do you know they have been successful?

Looking at the options from XYZ, it appears that they just moved pieces around with no understanding at all of the purpose and results.

Because each of their 3 scenarios has them going to Franklin MS. None left them at Carson.

It’s also on their own Rooted in Oakton website. They specifically asked to be moved to Franklin MS so their cohort could remain whole and move together with more kids to Oakton to continue their “community.”

Setting aside how annoying the RIO group is, it does make sense for them to move to Franklin if they are staying at Oakton. Shifting schools moving to Skyview between Franklin and Carson to limit split feeders is a logical thing to do.

Except in doing that, they will displace Navy families who are also going to Oakton HS and Chantilly HS. One of the scenarios has Navy kids going to Rocky Run MS and then back to Oakton HS, as well as Navy kids going to Rocky Run MS and Chantilly HS. So Navy will now feed into 2 middle schools all so Crossfield can go to one MS (Franklin) and stay together at Oakton HS. Does that sound fair to you?

Those scenarios are crazy. All of them.
Go back to A.

Why does this group get special consideration and treatment above everyone else? Did Kathy Smith move to that neighborhood?

I’m actually more impressed with what Lees Corner has been able to put together in much less time. They also have a stronger argument.

Keeping Crossfield at Oakton is causing messy boundaries elsewhere. Had Lees Corner been involved in that first round of maps, I don’t think Crossfield would have been catered to so much. I wonder if the school board regrets giving them so much influence now.

The problem Lees Corner has is that there isn't another logical group to move to Westfield in their stead. So they have a good argument, but everyone else has a better argument.

Dirty politics and gerrymandering at its finest. There is no scenario that shouldn’t have RIO moving to either Skyview or South Lakes (both in their backyard)

💯 That is exactly it. RIO getting special treatment. Wonder why??

Westfield will just have to stay under capacity. Or move more kids from Franklin Farm to Skyview and let more Westfield kids stay at Westfield. But you don’t uproot an entire community (Lees Corner) that is in walking distance of Chantilly HS to backfill Westfield HS all because one group refuses to move from their beloved Oakton which is literally 9 miles away from them.

Not a Lee's Corner family here: you are dead wrong. I don't know how you can claim that there is not a more logical group to move to Westfield. Cub Run/Chantilly, for one. (And, there is new construction in that area.) After that, Bull Run.

Well, certainly this can happen, as its one of 2 out of 3 suggested versions.

If you don't live in Lees Corner, the suggestion seems very reasonable. I think the CVHS people who are much farther away should get to stay, and you should have to move if those are the only two options on the table. But I also agree with you that the RIO people should be sent much closer to their house (South Lakes or Skyview). It seems less disruptive to not move half of Westfield over to Skyview because there aren't any natural areas to move to Westfield (except that one part of Cub Run). Keep some of the current kids at Westfield and fill Skyview with Franklin Farm.

This what everyone needs to focus on. This is what we should be going to the media about. How one group used their money and influence to literally buy their way out of going to a new school even when it logistically makes the most sense causing chaos to the surrounding communities. If distance is one of the most important considerations, and at both meetings it seemed to be the case, it doesn’t make sense to not fill Skyview with communities that live closer to it.

Is this what Reid wanted? Complete chaos?

There is no better argument than walking distance.

I feel Lees Corner was well supported last night (rightfully so).

Right now Crossfield is split between 3 middle schools Franklin - Hughes - Carson and 3 high schools. In the new scenarios, it still splits between into Franklin and Hughes. Everyone ripping on Crossfield but what you're calling unfair is what we've been doing for years.

Word is they paid someone off or have someone from the group working in Gatehouse. $$$$$ talks. And the Oakton community has a lot of money.

Is is the same group that made a website and raised thousands on a gofundme to fight a church that was trying to build afford housing on their own land?

But you failed to add that specific neighborhood ASKED to be at Hughes-Crossfield because they can walk. It’s not like half the school is being split.

Currently, Navy is a split feeder. Most kids go to Oakton, but some closer to Chantilly attend Chantilly. Draft 2 has this split happening earlier, with the Chantilly middle school, Rocky Run. That makes sense for the kids who are currently bound for Chantilly, doesn't it? The problem is the kids zoned for Oakton being redirected to Rocky Run. Seems like that could be corrected, even with Crossfield at Oakton.

For some reason, Draft 2 has Crossfield kids who are zoned to South Lakes being moved to Franklin for middle school, but remaining at South Lakes for HS. If those kids are not moved to Franklin, but remain zoned to Hughes, there should be no need to "displace" Navy. Navy kids zoned for Oakton HS could stay at Franklin.
