Since they're not playing a home game tonight, hopefully the boosters will make good use of all of that food that is being wasted.

BTW, I love this line: "marking the first resignation in a growing scandal..."

Asra knows she's going to spill the dirt on everyone and is just biding her time...

A Nike contract?!? for a public HS?

An exclusive deal is highly unusual for a public high school. Possibly illegal? Maybe. But not 100% sure.

Lol

I think the students at the St. John’s Academy in NW DC (independent high school) are only allowed to wear Under Amor gear due to the exclusive deal with the company’s CEO who is an alum. That’s one of the problems with these exclusive athletic sponsorships at the prep school level.

The athletes at Hayfield can wear whatever shoes, etc that they want to wear. The Nike deal, to my knowledge, just means they are buying all the athletic teams Nike uniforms.

Of course, the football, baseball and boys basketball teams were the first to get them I am told.

What wasted food? The football team meal comes from the "team mom's" fundraising account, not the boosters. Chips, candy, cokes, etc is all prepacked and will keep for basketball season.

What about Cross Country/Track, Softball, Lacrosse, dive, gymnastics, etc? If Nike is paying, all Hayfield sports should get equal investment.

Whatever the case, they shouldn't let the homeless student athletes go without during Thanksgiving.

The boosters typically purchase from places like Chick-fil-A, pizza hut, etc in bulk for the friday night lights. The boosters pay for all that stadium food the fans enjoy. The night of the canceled games, there were no fans to eat all that food that was likely thrown away in the bin.

All teams will have Nike uniforms. Some teams just got them expeditiously. I'm told, and this is second hand, the "popular" boys sports received them first.

The UA deal with St. John's College High School (that's the name of the school you are referencing) doesn't forbid kids from wearing Nike, Adidas etc. If that were the case the school uniforms would have to be UA and I am almost certain they are Flynn O'Hara. The UA deal is specific to the sports teams and the school store. The school store is only allowed to sell UA clothing unless UA doesn't make the type of clothing being sold (e.g. ties) and the athletics teams are only allowed to wear UA uniforms, warmups etc. It makes sense for a UA to make a deal like this with an SJC as SJC is, to HS sports fans, a national brand and good at many sports (and it doesn't hurt that UA's founder is an SJC alum). I would be shocked if Hayfield got a deal that looks even remotely like that. Nike would keep an Overton at a very far distance.

Nike is almost certainly not paying. These deals with public high schools typically involve the schools getting a discounted rate for uniforms and warmups and things like free coaches shirts and the like. Nike would certainly not be paying a school with a limited athletics tradition like Hayfield, especially with a guy like Overton running things. A John Marshall in VA is another story.

No they shouldn’t. Send them back. Shouldn’t have broken the rules. Perfect example of actions have consequences. You gonna learn today

Referring to the Hayfraud cheats as "student" athletes. That is rich. Thanks for the laugh!

This violates Title IX

Boy, FCPS and Hayfield are just piling it on.

I just feel so bad for the kids in this big mess. Terrible role models leading them through this and them seeing this as "the way". Terrible for all the kids that left Hayfield, for all the kids at Hayfield not involved in this mess but will be impacted, and for all of the kids at other schools impacted by these actions in so many ways. I would also not be surprised if we learn schools that previously offered some of the Hayfield players (like VA Tech) remove their scholarship offer due to involvement. That is a shame as likely not fully the fault of the kids but many times schools will remove scholarship offers as they learn about character issues and flaws of the kid's parents, environment they were part of, etc. I am definitely close to many of the coaches and recruiters and see this happen more than you think. Hope that does not happen here for the sake of the kids but it could and might in this case. What a shame!

And did they have homes last year? Don't believe any of these kids are homeless.
