I have a senior and want her in school unless kids are bleeding from their eyeballs. To me “reset” means updating quarantining protocols and clarifying for parents (with FCHD) when kids will quarantine. Does my asymptomatic + kid have to miss 2 weeks of school? Does a “close contact”? What’s a close contact for a vaxxed kid with masks? Someone at her lunch table? If kids get delta once and are exposed, do we start over? And if so, she’s carrying 5 APs this year. There needs to be a better plan communicated for keeping on top of school work than, “like an ordinary sick day”. It’s very unusual for kids to be out sick for 2 weeks. Is there going to be an asynchronous recording of classes to watch, or ??? |
I meant we didn’t open at the start of the year. And yes it was pretty ridiculous that we didn’t open for real until March. |
This! Hope for the best and plan for the worst. Everyone but psychopaths wants this to work. But if it doesn’t? Then what? FCPS being so awesome at reacting to unforeseen circumstances (/s). |
The theme of your 'reset' is fair. There are others here that would like to see everything shut down for everybody. |
Let's not kid ourselves...we weren't open "for real" last year. Hybrid, while better that DL, is a poor substitute for real in-person learning. |
Totally agree. Especially watching how delta is unfolding in FL. |
+1. I am right there with you! |
And I want to know FCPS realizes that absences and exposures will be higher this year, and has a plan. Some communication would be nice. People keep posting to look at the FAQs. But you senior is missing two weeks of school with a very heavy academic load (while feeling 100% fine) and the plan is “talk to the teacher” is frankly not okay, given the likely number of absences. Some teachers are great under these circumstances. And some as a**holes. I’d feel a lot better if there was protected makeup time, teachers taping classes and emailing kids, CARES money going for tutors to meet with kids in quarantine (virtually) and help them stay caught up— something. If I had an ES kid, I’d want more detail on quarantine and illness procedures, because you clearly can’t get a babysitter for a COVId + kid, and You need to be able to plan for my job this fall. Or maybe all the ES parents are fine with your kid being sent home for two weeks on no notice, with no ability to get childcare? I |
You need to tell Brabrand, Ivey, your regional superintendent, and your school board member that they must give families a plan star. The lack of a solid plan is frustrating to everyone. |
Thank you! This is the kind of information we need. Why is everyone translating my anxiety to “She wants DL.” I don’t! I want plans and specifics in place so we can AVOID DL. Jesus! |
Because they GAF what parents think? (spoiler alert: nope). |
I doubt there are many “distance learning” nutters on this board. Don’t create a straw man, please. |
There aren't many compared to last year...but they're here and they're loud. |
Sounds like you're really talking about your needs, and not necessarily the needs of your kids. Calm down. |
FCPS is not completely useless. After all, there are still a few schools to rename... |
