Sure. But does anyone believe they are actually “monitoring the statistics”? I don’t. |
|
There were multiple cases at GFES last week. (Per principal email!) how many are on the dashboard? ONE.
Which is it? Was it actually one case or 12? Are they not contact tracing because they don’t want to know the true extent of the spread? |
When you use the word "they" are you referring to the department of health? FCPS simply just notifies the community. |
Their concern is if we enter the high risk zone. If we're in low or medium the monitoring is minimal. |
The Dashboard has never been accurate. I’m itinerant and all of my schools have had more cases (based on principal emails) than the dashboard has shown. And before they retired it, the VDH K12 was equally incomplete. |
Fairfax County will hit “substantial” transmission this week. (Ie - back in masks everywhere, everyone). High could be as early as the week after. |
But we also went an entire week without COVID deaths. CDC really needs to switch to a hospitalization based metric like the UK. |
Reset for what? You want to have another virtual year? We have to stop comparing to other schools. These schools did have to close last year for times. Do you remember the famous picture last year of a crowded Georgia high school hallway and then they went virtual for a few weeks? The reality is that in THIS AREA private and catholic schools were open all year even with quarantine or disturbances. And we didn’t open at all which is just ridiculous. We need to be open this year. |
Exactly. Thank you! |
Ha, yeah...'reset' is code for "where is our DL-for-all?" The difference is that these schools forced to close down are doing it temporarily to "flatten the curve" or "reset" if you will. They'll be right back in-person in a few weeks. I believe FCPS would behave likewise. I.e., you're not getting "DL-for-all" for the entire next school year. |
| Thank god for SB 1303, because all of you distance learning nutters are insane. Keep your kids locked in the basement and home school. My kids need school. |
Yes, they were open all year… with a different and much less transmissible strain of the virus that didn’t affect kids. By December, schools who were virtual realized they could have been open with simple safety measures… so the lesson learned was “We should stay open despite the virus.” HOWEVER, that lesson may not be relevant anymore. A crucial factor in this scenario has changed, so we don’t know if masks and vaccines and social distancing will do the trick. We HOPE so, but it would be prudent to make contingency plans and stay on top of current studies and data and, so far, FCPS hasn’t made signs of doing either. |
This is what I love about DCUM. The PP is saying, "and we didn't open at all which is just ridiculous." I don't know which year you're referring to but in fact we were open last year from March on. |
I don’t think anyone wants DL. They just want information on how things will be handled if wide swathes of the school population become sick . |
Want to know the reality. There is no replacement for in-person learning. Distance learning was an unmitigated disaster for poor and minorities. Which is to say unless the variant is literally sending kids to hospitals at material levels there is not be distance learning. That is why there is no planning for it, because it isn't an option. |
