No way is there a delay tomorrow. FCPS is definitely closed all week. While the main roads look OK on VDOT cameras, so many side streets have not been touched.

Main roads outside of the major highways like 66 don't look ok near me. There's 1.5 lanes open instead of 2 in both directions.

They plowed one lane down the middle of our side street yesterday and then lots more sleet fell. The one lane they plowed, more than once, left big ridges which are now ice. My teen is out there trying to chip away at it now. Our street is a mess.

We shoveled multiple times and there is still frozen sleet all over our driveway.

Good if you have a 4WD (not just an AWD). The main roads should all be clear, but you'll need it to navigate the side streets.

Says 5 degrees at 7 am tomorrow. In past hasn’t FCPS closed when temps like that even if no snow?

Schoolcast puts FCPS at about 95% chance of closure

Agree with the closure.

Main roads are NOT ok. I live in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County and just drove down Rt. 1 - a major road. There were several places where part of the lane disappeared, so all four lanes are not fully plowed. Add to that, people are walking on Rt. 1. Many residents rely on the bus and walk and you can't get near the sidewalks.

Yeah delays if temp is the only issue. Not delays if it’s temp and still iced over roads/sidewalks and obstructed bus stops. I know it doesn’t matter for FCPS ultimately but the only possible delay days for other districts this week will be Thurs/Fri . Mon-Wed will likely be closed for all as side streets and sidewalks and bus stops and lots get cleared.

Sure. I was just responding to the question about closing in the past for low temps with no snow.

Same. The plows pushed the snow to the sidewalks where it got covered by an extra layer of sleet and solidified.

This.
With the temperature of single digit tonight it will create wall of ice on every car parked.
Good luck shoveling, don’t forget to rest when it becomes too much!

Our driveway is clear but our street is solid ice. I am a teacher and now a great snow/ice driver. Nervous about the possibility of going in.

I’m pretty sure teachers will refuse to go in Thursday for the PD.

Please call it already! This is ridiculous!
