This. I am shocked that people would him back after this. I don't want my kids thinking it's okay if you drink and drive and damage someone's property (and could have damaged a person if there had been one there) and there are no consequences. It's pretty sick that so many of you think that's an okay lesson to teach your kids.

+1 why is the Navy community (staff and parents) so damn scared of having a new principal? Is it because some of them had an “in” with Coch and got preferential treatment, and are now afraid they won’t have that with the new principal? Maybe the new principal will be even better! And we will all be on equal footing now at least.

Scared because Navy ranking is so high.

Do not want to loose winning formula, though only 4% FARMs help many.

The combination of AAP center + 4% FARMS means that Navy's great school ratings will remain high no matter what. The principal has ZERO to do with that.

+100

Spring Hill had four principals in the space of five years and they were all dumpster fires.

The Great Schools rating actually went up.

See this is why people want Coch back. He is a known quantity.

Because he was a normal down to Earth guy. We don't want any weirdos.

The idea that parents have an "in" with the principal is such a weird thing but parents definitely believe it. I've had three kids go through Navy and never been to a single PTO meeting. I do volunteer some, but there is 0% chance Coch knows who I am. The one time I had an issue he was very responsive and I still support him. I eavesdropped on a woman last night who very much felt like the in crowd was getting their comeuppance. It was nuts to me, but clearly that's a thing based on comments here.

I don't know. I am sure some moms may have had an "in" with the principal. I wasn't one of them but he was pretty friendly and knew who I was. I would be fine with him coming back but ok with someone new as well (not a weirdo). I just think about it this way, if I was negligent, as he was, and got a dwi, I would not expect to lose my private sector job and be shamed publicly. I feel like he made a mistake and he probably has been punished sufficiently, but that's just me.

The difference between a private sector job and a job in education though is that in education, certain positions are such that you are supposed to serve as a role model. Like it or not that is part of the job. There's a reason it made the news when so many other people's DWIs do not. Principal is a public facing role and one in which you are a leader and in service to children and parents. It does come with a responsibility that many private sector jobs don't, even if the actual job may be less stressful/not as well compensated/not as hard to obtain.

There are no truly "bad" teachers at navy. There are a few that are less interactive than others but no terrible ones.

More than 3. One listing is for 3, including an AAP teacher.

I will not name names on this board because I don’t think that’s fair, but there are a few that have been bad. Bad could include: poor communication, poor overall teaching, poor grading. I am excited about a new principal because usually teachers step up their game to impress them.

There are some that are not great but it's possible those will be the ones to leave. However none are truly "bad". If you think that then you are very privileged to have never had a actual bad teacher.

Bad is subjective. How would you define bad? We had two very bad ones. I can’t go into details but it was horrible.
Anonymous
Not sure how bad is being defined but everyone's opinion is subjective based on their experiences. When I was a kid, I had some truly bad teachers. I had one 80+ year old teacher that was so senile she could not remember math and half the time she was in some other world. My parents had to get a math tutor.

You seem really worked up. You should just come out and say what this experience is if you want any sympathy. If anything, the majority of the teachers are super patient given the some of the kids they have had to deal with. If I'm annoyed at anyone, it's at some of these parents that send their crappy kids to school that have serious behavioral issues and expect the teachers to deal with it and the rest of the kids to just accept and ignore it.

DP, but now I think you may be the one who needs to elaborate. You just accused PP of getting worked up but then proceeded to accuse parents of sending their “crappy kids” to school. That judgment just revealed more about you than the person you were judging.
