Entertainment and Pop Culture
I have no wish for them to disappear. It’s a quaint cultural hangover. Most nations have something totally frivolous they do for fun. But tastes change rapidly these days. With older Britons dying off and the younger generations being less emotionally tied to the BRF, who knows? You yourself said the 30-something members of the family were of fading influence. George is what 7? 8? It’ll be a while before he can take on that role. |
I hope the royal family work out a better way to plan for the future of "spares". It seems that Princess Margaret and Prince Andrew struggled - hopefully after this phase, things work out better for Harry. |
In 10 years he'll certainly be the source of fascination. Meghan will be 48. No teen or young 20something is going to care about an aging millenial. Just like they don't today. Meghan has maybe five years of relevancy left by the standards of celebrityhood. As all Hollywood actresses will tell you celebrityhood is not kind to aging people. Men have it better. |
Lol |
A source of fascination and a person who can feed the public curiosity in the media are two different things. William and Harry were officially off-limits until they left the equivalents of college at age 21/22. No interviews, no paparazzi photos, staying way from all of their schools. That's another 15 years for George. Plus he's basically going to 'disappear' in a year or so when he goes off to boarding school in the countryside with the rest of the nobles. |
Anne does a great job. Being royal is effectively her job and she always made clear her kids would have non royal lives. It's worked out well for her. And so far it seems to he working for the Wessexes. Harry would have always known his life would require a different direction than Will. He could have used Anne as a role model. But it didn't work out that way. |
You never hear about 'shouting matches' with the Queen. Ever. She's not really treated as a 'person' but an institution. Plus they already tried the tears and anger routine by saying Meghan made post-partum Kate cry at the wedding 1.5 years ago. People who care can't do anything about it and for Meghan supporters - well, Kate was clearly still in the weeds with her newborn. So here we are. |
I'm the same age as Will. So I know he and Harry didn't "disappear." They were always in the presses. Heck, apparently Kate had a pin up of Will in her bedroom as a teenager! |
Anne was a HUGE source of British media gossip from the 1970s - 1980s. Sometime after the start of the 90s she a) banned all press from attending her media events, and b) the focus shifted over to Diana/Fergie. Its not that Anne's some angel, she's weathered her share of scandals (from refusing to tell even the Queen she was engaged to her first husband having a bastard DURING THEIR MARRIAGE), she's just aged out of what's considered trendy and banned the reporters regardless. |
They were trotted out for regularly scheduled press photos - just like George is now. Did you know where Will went to get pizza? Who his first kiss was? The palace released TIDBITS - like William going to a Spice Girls concert - but nothing substantive. For instance, he wasn't pictured with the girls there but if he was the age he is now, there would have been a full-court press just like when he and Kate went to meet Beyonce/JayZ at the basketball game. They did however allow Beatrice/Eugenie/Harry to be officially papped with the Spice Girls at a formal engagement with Charles.

| Their statement is impersonal and terse. They got everything they wanted but still leaving bitterly. Whomever is doing their PR needs to just fire themselves. |
The Sussex' didn't release a statement...? |
They did. It came out same time as Queen’s statement. |
There is no statement from them anywhere. |
She dosed a great work but was it her choice or is it forced on her. She has always lived under her sisters shadow doing what ever her sister doesn't want to do. Doesn't sound like a great life to me. |
